Need tires that "give" a little.

I just installed Hoosier 11x7.1-5 tires on the rear of our kart. These things grip so well that it almost tips if you corner too hard. They're also super sticky so they pick up alot of sand/pebbles when they heat up and fling them like bullets. I'm in need of some harder compound tires that will "give a little" in the corners. We're not looking to all out drift but an occasional slide is always fun. This is a fun kart so Im not looking to race it. Any recomendations?

Well you can send me those Hoosiers and then buy some different ones!:feedtroll::wai::wai:

I've had expericance with some of those Hoosiers and I know what you're talking about....typically they're supposed to grip and get sticky like that, gives the vehicle a lot of traction in the turns and helps keeping from spinning out...:auto::auto:

I would get different ones, unless you're going to race....no need for them in normal apps(Except they look cool!)

if you want to increase the chance of sliding..
find some OLD tyres on CL or something.. check that they're not worn down, but just old,
chances are they hardened enough to loose some traction, but not yet enough to crack when inflated.

Also IIRC race tyres come in different shore grades... (hardness)
the harder it is the harder it is to make it grip ;)

Yes Sid you are correct. Racing tires do come in different hardness. The harder the tire the more give it has, the softer the more it grips into the track. Personally I prefer the soft tires(just don't start on stand after, rocks go everywhere) a lot more control. I keep a pair of old tires for when I want that give you're talking about and typically use them in practice. Always new(er) tires for a race through, control is everything.

Hoosier 7.1/11.0-5 (#22370) are only available in two tire compounds, R60A & R60.

From their spec page...
The R60A is a medium compound that balances traction, durability and performance with versatility. The R60A designed for medium grip, mildly abrasive track conditions.
The R60 is a hard compound that is designed to maximize durability on abrasive tracks without sacrificing mechanical grip. The R60 is designed for high heat & high grip track conditions.

Since you already have them on, just keep running some laps...they'll scrub down soon enough.

If you want a spare, harder tires to occasionally swap out... there is this craigslist ad selling used racing tires...Mojo, Bridgestone, Hoosier, MG, and a couple other brands.

These are way too gummy for our kind of parking lot play. I need to find a happy medium.

They do look cool. I'm not an experienced track racer but when I'm gasing it into the corners in the parking lot, it really hooks up well. :thumbsup:

My practice tires are hard, so when I go into a turn I drift a good 10-15 feet. Then when come a race im given a good moment of oh crap.

Could you check to see what compound tires you are using for practice? Just curious. Seems like many of you racers practice with harder tires and race with soft.
