So I picked up a decent go kart frame from a friend of mine and i am looking to get it running again. It had a briggs and stratton 5hp motor on it but decided to buy a brand new 6.5hp greyhound motor (harbor freight). The engine fired right up second pull out of the box, it mounted fine, got the throttle hooked up good, I hooked up the chain to the centifugal clutch and to the sprocket on the dirve tire and now whenever I fire up the engine and as soon as i take the choke off my go kart starts driving on me and i have to hold the breaks to keep from rolling away. Does this mean bad clutch? It is an old 10 tooth hillard clutch I believe. If it is the clutch then I will buy a new one. Any recomendations? The axle sprocket has 54 teeth, I way about 160 pounds and would like a good combo of top end speed and good acceleration. Any help would be much apreciated.

Yeah the more I think about it I am too. Maybe it has something to do with all the little springs and things and run along the engine under the gas tank that move when the throttle moves. But the clutch is old and looks semi worn out which makes me wonder if it is engaging at to low of rpms.
yesss...... but the inside of the clutch is the only thing that should be spinning
when the engine is on with choke..... is the motor running very smoothly becuase maby the rpms are really low untill u take the choke of and then it gets up to ideling speed... and maby uhave a bad clutch that is engaging when the engine is at low Rpms

Oil the clutch bushing ONLY and with SAE 30. That is manufacturers recommendation.
