http://www.gokartsupply.com/trouble.htm check out that link for a troubleshooting chart for Comet Torque Converters. It appears like from your drawing that you have a 40 Series with the 7 1/2 Driven. With that particular driven you need to be at either 7 1/4" Center to Center on your shafts with a Belt 203783A or 7 7/8" Center to Center on your shafts with a belt 203784A. and then of course make sure your driver and driven are both properly installed. Check the diagrams at this link for the 40 Series http://www.gokartsupply.com/tcbelts.htm. Also 40 series Torque Converters use a 7/8 Symmetrical belt (meaning the belt is angled on both sides). I have seen all kinds of karts with the wrong belts on them. So correct the center to center problem you have, and the probable alignment issue, get the correct belt, clean and lube properly according to the diagrams on the gokartsupply website and you should be good to go.

Good luck to you,
Jared

Is it burning out both sides of the belt? If it's only burning on side of it, then the units are misaligned or there's too much tension on the belt. Check out the belt's part number and find the propper center to center distance between the driver and driven units on www.gokartsupply.com on the same link that jarcynvicnchris93 provided in the earlier post.
