Is there a thread in here with step by step instructions on taking the carb apart and cleaning and reassembling it? Maybe one with pictures? I have a 5 hp B&S.

Thanks

Well I took the carb off and cleaned it and it looks great now. I think that my true problem was/is my fuel tank. There was a 1/4 of silt in the upper bowl and the gas that I dumped out of the main tank looked like someone made cereal with thin black milk. After rinsing a few times, I noticed that the sponge that is in the tank seems to be rotting and breaking up in to pieces. I removed the portions I could reach but there is a large chunk I can't seem to get to. Does anyone have a easy method for removing that sponge. I know the carb and upper bowl are spotless now but I hate to put it back together without really fixing the problem. Especially since the tank is a pain to drop with the main bolt located right behind the jack shaft (really who designed that and thought it was a good idea?)

Well if someone knows a trick, I would love to hear it.

Thanks

when cleaning stuff make shure your using gas or kerosene to clean parts that come in contact with fuel so you dont get water in the gas. and i think maybe a little extended graber thing would be good to get out the sponge

Yeah I used carb cleaner on the carb and rinsed the tank with gas. I think I can probably get all the sponge out with a little effort but I am wondering if I will have vapor lock problems if it is not in there. I read on the Briggs and Stratton site that it is actually to stop vapor lock and keep air bubbles out of the fuel. I just assumed it was there to keep gas from sloshing around and leaking. Anyone know if running it without the sponge will cause any problems?

Speaking of Governors...anyone know how to make sure it is properly adjusted? I would like to make sure everything is right before I bolt the tank back on.
