I bought an old go Kart for my son and I to fix up and need to know the make and model so I can order parts. It has a briggs and stratton engine with compression and spark so I should be able to get it running. The fuel tank needs to be removed and drained and the carb needs cleaned. I also need to replace the throttle cable, front rim and seat. I would also welcome any advice regarding the hinky looking throttle linkage. Now if I can upload the pics on this internet machine Ill be in business. Pics are righted below.

WOW! How did you get it to stay on the ceiling like that? (please rotate pics before uploading them :lolgoku:)

Looks like a Manco Dingo to me... minus a roll cage...

Yup looks like a Manco Dingo 285 (5HP).. Without the TC n JS though, looks like someone converted it to straight CF clutch..

Fill out your location so we know where to send you for parts..

Heres a break down of the 285..

You also want to get a air filter on that motor before you run it..

Thanks very much, it has a air filter I just had removed it to see the engine better, it will need replaced. Sorry about the pics I dont know why they were upside down.
The carb seems to be attatched to the gas tank and there is another what looks like a throttle linkage (unused) under the gas tank. The fuel smells like varnish so it will all need to be flushed out and cleaned. I will fill out my profile. Thanks again.

Photos rotated

Heres a better look. Im assuming the carb draws directly from the tank under it.

An old Briggs....you'll need a new diaphragm for it most likely...they're cheap...get the old gas out..and put some denatured alcohol or mineral spirits in it for a few days....

I put some in with my gas...(mineral spirits) ...and my old mower just started running better and better....

Welcome to the forum!

Another question. The front rims measure 4.5" in diameter, I only see 5" rims in the gokart supply parts list. tractor supply has wheels with tires that will fit for $15.00 each. Is there anything gokart spicific I need to know about replacing these?

The first thing you need to know is those $15 wheels probably won't hold up, they're probably not designed for high speed...

The next thing is, when measuring rims, you don't measure diameter from the outside edge, you measure from where the bead of the tyre sits...

Know a little more, still need help.

Since getting this old gokart which I thought would be apiece of cake fixing up Ive learned quite a bit. I finally got the old Briggs and Stratton running but couldn’t keep it running so I bought a new motor, Ill fix up the other one at my leisure. Once I got the wheels turning it was obvious that the right end of the rear axle was slightly bent. Here is where Ive run into another problem. How do you get these wheels off? There was a nut on the right side which I took off. There is a retaining key in with the hub which will not budge. My question is when that key is removed does the wheel thread off the axle? Thanks for any help I can get.

The wheel should just slide off the axle, the key keeps the wheel from turning on the axle.. Looks like you need to spray it down with wd40 and let it sit for a while then tap it with a rubber mallet.. Good luck

Use pb blaster. Wd-40 is a Water Displacement fluid.... It was perfected on the 40th test, so it's called wd-40.... (no, I'm not cliff claven)
Spray it,let it soak. Spray next day, let it sit/soak....
Next, start with a BFH, and give it some love taps, around the perimeter of the wheel, hitting the tire. Use of "shock" can/will help loosen the wheels grip on the axle.
Now use the BFH and a solid object, like a steel rod, maybe even some pipe, and start beating on the back side of the wheel hub, hitting it in the direction to remove it.....
You can add some heat to the hub, but don't get crazy and get it hot enough the tires start melting........
