could anyone help me with the adjustment on this clip,it is on a 5hp tecumseh power sport, it hooks the throttle plate to the governor arm, (i think that is the correct terms) it wants to stick open, very sensitive have had it working once but was trying to adjust the brake cable and it has fouled up again, i have attached a picture, i can take more if needed, runs great, just stuck open, help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Is it the linkage that is sticking, or the throttle itself? If the throttle is sticking the it may be due to buildup of some sort on the throttle plate, be it carbon or possibly dirt. Have you tried cleaning the carb?

hi
it is the linkage from the governor arm to throttle, i can move the arm so slightly and it will back the plate around at the carb and idle perfect, it was working perfect until i messed with the brake cable which also hooks to the arm and pulls the arm to cut the engine down when brake is pressed.

Very few go karts have this feture. It was probably installed on yours to keep kids from overheating their centrifugal clutch by constantly pushing the gas and brake pedal at the same time.

If It was my kart, I'd just disconnect the brake cable from the carb/govenor linkage, and then make sure you have a (functioning) engine kill switch within easy each of the driver.

thats what i was in the process of doing and it was working well, then i decided i might need to reconnect the brake cable, i didnt know if it could cause damage to anything, it has a kill switch right under the steering wheel, so are you saying it can work properly without the clip?

:iagree:
While adding something to keep the kids from pushing both pedals at one time sounds like a good idea, imho it's FAR better to teach them not to do so in the first place instead of nanny-ing up a kart, lol).

I'd take it clear off the kart and act like it was never there to begin with.

Good info with pics of Tec governor / throttle linkages at this link; http://www.menintools.com/linkage.html

Sorry, no - I've never seen one with a brake cable on the throttle.

I'd remove the cable and everything associated with it, leaving only the Tecumseh linkages and the kart throttle cable.
