Hey whats up guys, just need help with choosing some parts. For engines, should i use a harbor freight 6.5hp @3000rpm or a duromax 16hp @3600rpm? also what clutch sprocket would i need in relation with the axle sprocket? I'm hearing 6:1 is the most common but want to have a decent top end and decent acceleration. and i know tires matter for the rear so what size tires should i get? looking to reach around 35-40 mph if thats possible, even more if it can happen. i tried the speed calculator but just want to hear what you guys say. please helppppp!! thanks

:innocent:I hope you don't mind my breaking this down a little for clarity.

1) Looking for parts. What are you building/modding?

2) Engines- 6.5 or 16. HP. Which is better (app. driven).

3) What clutch/sprocket needed.

4) Accepted ratio; 6.5 to 1. Next question, see below.

5) What size tires should you get? What do you want/plan to do with your cart? Unless you're independently wealthy, this one helps determine where you should focus your available funds.

Sounds like you have some interesting ideas; the forum can't be of much focused help without some more detailed information. A little more info, please??

-thanks and what do you mean by app. drivin for the engine?
-building a go kart to run mostly on pavement/ concret.
-i must chose an engine before looking for clutch due to the horsepower range on the clutch.
-the ratio 6.5:1 will fit my needs listed in my previous post?
-and tires: for front, anything will do just not sure of what size i should get, and for rear live axle, i was thinking of slicks but dont know what size and width since i hear the bigger the wheel the faster the kart.

please reply guys...thanks!

App. driven = application driven - what you want to do with your cart. Land speed record attempts need a different approach than a fun cart for the young 'uns.

The rest of your questions are now easier to debate in the forum. I, personally don't claim to have the answers you seek; that's why we have the forum. Give it a little time; more Q&A will help you narrow things down. Pat H.

thanks. and i wish for the car to hit between 35-40 mph at an average pace not too slow and not too fast, cause i know you have to sacrifice one for the other.
