Need help with selecting a tube for a roll cage for a kart

Hey guys,
Im building a roll cage for my kart. My kart has 1/2 inch OD sized tubing around. I will attach a pic.Im buying the tube from a local supplier. But what size thickness should I get or should it be a hollow tube?? Any ideas?

That looks bigger than 1/2" OD. Tube is hollow btw.

I was trying to say should I go with steel that isn't hollow?

God no. You'll never move. 1/8" is the thickest I'd use. 3/32" is also good.

juju, the size of the tubing is up to you ( OD ) But the wall thicknes you could use .083 or something with .08something .085 , .087 I have also seen .065 but that gets a little thin. the place I get my steel has .083 in stock so I use that alot. its thin , light, and easy to work with

Thanks guys. .083 sounds good. This is my first time fabricating so I really didnt know what to look for. Im going to go to the metal supplier today.

what type of welder will you be using?

I would go with at least 1.5" OD tubing, .100" or thicker wall.
