Hello all,

Just got into the go kart world and having an issue with a new torque converter locking my belt up when I get off the gas. The pulley with the spring showing (think its called the driven gear or something...sorry) closes on my belt when I go off the gas and locks my belt....which stalls the engine right then and there. Bought it brand new from bmikarts.com, its a 40 series converter for my 8hp engine which is also fairly new. Please can you tell me what's going on or what to look for.

I would call BMI Karts first and ask for suggestions. Please post pictures of your setup so someone can possibly see what might be going on. Sounds like your belt could be too tight.

You might have ben able to get away with a 30 Series torque converter, not sure if that has anything to do with your issue though. A 30 Series will work with engines up to 8 HP.

Your description sounds like the drive pulley (on engine) isn't disengaging, ie, clutch problems.

Your not the first one to get a bad 40 series from BMI this week. Do you have it installed correctly. Last guy had to send his back. 40 is correct for a 8 hp.

Something's stopping your engine from turning, enough to shut it down. If your clutch was releasing okay that wouldn't happen, it would freewheel and let motor idle.
