need help with idle

I am having a problem with my brand new carb on my 8hp techumspon enigne it will not stay at a idle it will rev up but does not surge like i will get it to a good idle and then it will rev

Did you replace the base gasket? Are the linkages and springs installed correctly? Any hoses dangling that shouldn't be? Is your fuel fresh? Fuel filter clean? If all the basics check out, and if there is a mixture screw, run the mixture screw in EASILY until it bottoms before starting the engine. Back it out a turn and a half then see if you can get it to idle. If it idles, let it warm up then turn the mixture screw in slowly until the engine begins to run rough then back it out slowly past the smooth idle until it runs rough again. Turn the screw back in until you get a decent idle. Check your air filter. Not much else to suggest unless you have a leaky head gasket sucking air, valves out of adjustment or the carburetor is a Taiwan Brand X that will never work right. Did you get a warranty with the carb?

I don't think the disconnected governor will keep it from not idling, the governor helps maintain engine speed depending on its load. It counteracts the throttle. Try partially closing the choke once it fires up. If the idle improves you're running lean, pulling in too much air. If it stumbles or worsens, that isn't the problem. Internally collapsed fuel hose, sediment in the tank, bad gas, gas cap vent clogged causing a vacuum, water in the gas, float hanging up in the new carb. It goes on & on. Eliminate one thing at a time. Have you done a compression test?

either remove the governor, or reattach the lever.. NOW!

you are currently trying to ruin your engine,
seriously, that small plastic gear cannot hold up to more than maybe 4500 rpms,
and if it breaks it releases some nasty metal parts into the engines crank case,
those can violently lock the camshaft, score the cylinder, wedge into the lifters , bending your conrods, and even the valves if bad comes to worse..
you will need to buy a new engine, because of a stupid idea like bypassing the governor instead of removing it.

No worries. He's bound and determined to ruin that engine. No air filter might take a little longer than a bypassed govenor, but it'll get it done.

I would return that carb and get a different one.

For around $100 you can upgrade the carb to something much better. It comes with a 212cc engine attached for free. LOL

Leaky gasket?
Or lean jetting (due to no air filter)? Is the exhaust pipe stock?
Clogged idle jet?
Non-functioning throttle return spring?
Maybe need another small spring for the actual valve on the carb?

How about some pictures of what you have and how it is set up. All the linkages and adjustments on the carb. Pull the spark plug and show us a picture of the business end.

I would quit buying parts if it weren't my kart or quit trying to fix something you aren't familiar with. I agree with bob58o. Get a complete engine that you know will run and use the current one as a boat anchor.

I got it to idle it was a gap between the carb and the intake and also i just need to get some govener arms for take it out what should I do

either do it properly, or don't do it at all..

if as you say it's a friend you're "fixing" it for,
Say you get it to run properly (with bypassed governor)..
your friend will floor the pedal and ruin the engine..
now, let's take a quick guess who will be held responsible for that?!

We told you, what you should do already.
Now do it, or leave that thing alone,
since if bad comes to worse you will have to buy another engine
(either for yourself or a friend, or whatever person you come up with next)

A gap between the carb and intake manifold... means insufficient care on assembly, right

a tecumseh engine does not come cheap most of the time, and if you run a business however small it might be, you ARE responsible for everything that leaves your garage/shed/shop...
