Need help with engine , sprocket ,clutch

My first though is to see if you could find a bolt on wheel hub with a brake/sprocket combo that fits. Something like the picture at the bottom of this post.

I did a image search and found that picture from this website:

I was thinking something like that. The wheel hub on mine is like ones on boat trailers. I can't find one that has the whole kit like the picture you posted. I will keep looking. Thank you

When I do find the axle sprocket.does the size of the sprocket matter? Like I know no bigger than the tires but how small. To have a 6:1 ratio. 10t clutch 60t sprocket or 12t clutch and 72t axle sprocket.

You got it. As long as the tooth count of the rear axle divided by the tooth count of the clutch sprocket tooth count equals the ratio you want you're good. 72/12=6 ....60/10=6 ....48/8=6 and so on.

If you power both wheels with a jackshaft, you can use different sized sprockets on the jackshaft to multiply the ratio.

For example, if the clutch sprocket connects to a jackshaft, the sprocket on the jackshaft that the clutch sprocket connects to could be 20t and the sprockets at the ends of the jackshaft that connect to each tire sprocket are 10t. 20/10=2.

That means there jackshaft doubles the ratio. You can have a 10t on the clutch and a 30t on each tire sprocket for a 3:1 ratio. You multiply that ratio with the jackshaft (3x2=6). You can use any variation you want. Whole numbers are just to make talking about it easier. Ratio of 5.8, 6.3, etc etc

Hey thank you. Kind of got lost a bit at the end lol but I think I get it. So I would need a jackshaft to make both tires fun? Don't know how I'd do that but would be better than a one wheel peel.
So what does the size of tires have to do besides size of axle sprocket. Or is that it. Thanks again.

Just know the "jackshaft ratio" multiplies the "clutch sprocket and axle sprocket ratio".

Tires do not change the ratio per say, but they do affect the same thing. Overly big tires can strain the clutch (same as a low ratio 4:1,3:1, etc), but as long as the clutch is strong enough, you don't have to worry about the clutch. (That's why I want to upgrade to a 94c clutch on my buggy. I can use the same setup, but work on increasing horsepower without worrying about clutch issues).

Really small tires will accelerate much faster but give slower top speed (the rpms will max out). Bigger tires move the kart farther per revolution, so slower acceleration but higher top speed.

Other than that it's all preference. When I'm thinking about tires I think about a bicycle. How would it ride with 5 inch tires? Take that same setup and but put 3ft tires on it. How would it be different? etc..

I like the look of bigger tires. The bigger the better. Plus you get better ground clearance for the go kart body and the rear sprockets.

A keener understanding of how tire v. driven sprocket may be illustrated below. The ratio of a:b and c:d are logically different. The a:b example requires more torque/power to move, but will provide a higher wheel speed once in motion. The c:d example requires relatively less torque/power to move (thus faster acceleration) but will have limited top end speed. It's all about leverage.

Thus ends the Mr. Smartypants lecture of the day.
