Need Help Please

Hi iam 15 and just got in to cart making me and a friend have desided to make a go cart from a old victa lawnmower engine we realise that it cant be mounted on its side but we have something planed for that the only real problems we have are we dont know how to attach a cog on to the back axel to attach motor chain and we have no idea what we are going to do for the stearing and we are not to sure wat to do about gearing please help but also try not to sound to technical this is our first time and proberly wont understand p.s pls help

1st of all read through this website, and other websites about go-karts to get a general idea.

you can call it a cog, but it's mostly called a sprocket. you could attach one many diferent ways.

or if you have the money you can get a torque converter. it's pretty much an auto transmission
