This is my first build and I bought a yerf dog model 40000 for the frame and wheels; however, it did not come with an engine. I looked at the original engine and clutch (my first picture) and it was way to complicated to replicate. I want to put a predator 212 with a comet TAV 30 on it. Do I have to move the sprocket over to the left side of the shaft? Also, how and where should I mount the shaft? Any feedback would be a huge help thanks!

well mounting the original engine back in, is way easier than fitting in a predator with a TC;

not because of the sprocket (which is not an issue at all) but because of the engine plate and jackshaft you have to weld to your frame..
perfectly straight of course,
in ideal distance to each other,
aligned with the sprocket ideally...
so that it doesn't interefere with any other part of the chassis of course.

can be done of course.. but tracking down the original engine, mounting it in the already existing gy6 bay and connecting the leads is way easier,!

Plus newer gy6's with 150cc do have more power than the 7.8 it came with.. surely more than a predator 212 ;)

it's a tiny bit more expensive off a shelf but considering the price for a new predator, a TC, the jackshaft (no a TAV-KIT won't work) the steel, a new sprocket (yes you WILL need one), the time it takes to weld all in..
I'm not sure it's going to be more than "a tiny bit" more expensive ;)

Thanks for the advice. I'll look for the original engine but this go kart is from 15 years ago. If I end up using a predator, why won't a TAV kit work and why would I need a jackshaft?

I would also like to know why a tav kit wouldn't work??
I would think it was as simple as a motor plate, predator, tav30 kit,9 tooth tav sprocket,60tooth axle sprocket,and new chain.

The tavkit has it's jackshaft solely on the wrong side of the engine;
there's no way to move it's sprocket
which means the it'll very likely not only hit the perforated plate but also the chassis itself..
and frankly cutting the chassis is a bad idea!
a std jackshaft instead could mount roughly where the idler sits and would route the chain nicely to the existing sprocket without interfering with any chassis part;

of course you can buy a Tav-Kit, and if it works out (which I doubt) then good,
if not a jackshaft and a new belt is all you need. (and you needed that anyways)
considering it's cheaper to buy a TAVKit for ~75 bucks now than buying a set without backplate for IDK 200.. you should buy the TC in Tav-Kit form anyways;
just to save some bucks ;)

The backplate can either rest on a shelf or you could sell it and buy a belt from the revenue ;)

So the axle has no key way on the left side? If it does cut mesh off frame put sprocket on left side. Weld motor plate to those two bars in the middle .

Thanks itsid, I'll buy the engine and TAV kit along with a mounting plate. If it works out, great, if not I guess I'll need to buy a jack shaft.

Eric87, yeah that's what I was planning on doing. I don't think there's a key way on the left side of the shaft, but can't I just cut a key way? If there's enough space for the engine and TC I should be fine mounting the engine to those two bars.

I think your axle has splines on right side that holds sprocket hub. So no go on moving the sprocket. Like itsid said you will need a jackshaft plate, jackshaft,bearings and diffrent belt. BMI sells a jackshaft plate . That would also work with a motor mount.

I think Sid is right completely.

1. That sprocket is way too small
2. The jack shaft will allow the engine to center up.
3. You can change your gearing with it without changing the rear axle stuff.
4. You will also be able to change the chain sizes also with a different sprocket on either side to match what you have and match the new chain sizes.
