Found this on craigslist. Thinking about buying it. What does this look like to you all? Rupp, AmEx?? It needs work, doesn't run, pull string is broke, and clutch is non-functioning Has a GX160 on it. Guy wants $400. Your thoughts on price?

Ehhh, seems a big high, but that could just be me. What makes it worth $400? I've bought frames like that for $50.

Not an expert here, but $400 is too high. Scrub brakes and a trashed engine? I would offer $150 max.

People posting on Craigslist know they're going to get low balled by 90% of people no matter what, so they price things a bit higher.

I know that's how I do it.

Well it's NOT an American Express..

the Manco Amex is Model number 225-XX
None has scrub brakes.. the oldest version had a band brake, newer ones discs.

So that's obviously not it.
It looks Manco'ish I agree.. but the picture is still suboptimal...
Maybe those are Manco wheels, maybe they're not *shrugs*

[EDIT]
Ha! I know.. must be a Sears!

Sears sold replica Rupps,
and also Mancos
and the Mancos had a scrub brake instead of the original band brakes.
I only know of two seaters... but at least that's a plausible guess, right?

Very true. Thank you Sid, your kart history is vast and very impressive. Next step I guess is now trying to get a response from the seller so I can take a look at it. Thank you again.

I got 2 Manco karts down by your area (Laurel, IN) for a little under $400 and they both ran, although one had a broken clutch. Both live axle and disc brake. I agree the guy is asking too much... I think $100-150??? depending on how the rest of the kart looks. Keep looking, Good Luck.

Jmindy if you got those karts in Laurel, they were either hot, or used to smuggle meth lol. You're the only one that will understand and laugh at that.
