So I too am designing an electric Go Kart for my school and I'm a little lost.
My teacher salvaged some parts from an electric wheelchair and that includes a 24v motor controller and a motor with differential transmission.
How would I go about calculating the speed of how fast this go kart will ride around our hallways if there are 10" wheels on it? I have literally no idea what the gear ratio is in the transmission because there are no labels on it, I only know who made the motor, though I did just find a very similar picture, it probably is actually the same one:
My teacher has said that he raced his son on his tractor with this thing. But I'm reading all these posts and it seems that many are against the use of an electric wheelchair system for lack of speed.
Now, I am not entirely bent on how fast this thing will go since it will ride around the hallways of our school and maybe the parking lot. I want this to have a long battery life as well, but obviously if it's going 2 miles an hour, what fun is that?
So I think I have this right and would like clarification, input wattage is what drains battery life and that is calculated by taking the volts and multiplying it by the amperage?
Also, I mentioned that this has a differential transmission. I was wondering if using a motor with differential was worth it or is using a sprocket to axle chain worth it.
