Nevermind - frustration setting in here - It is right the way it is. Ask for help but don't listen to those spending their time trying to help.

I guess mine that I just got running flawlessly with almost the exact same engine (but 13 hp) must have a backwards driven and a loose belt :surrender: :

Thats true! But it is a new factory built kart, no changes have been made, and the others in the store were all the same.

I thought you said YOU installed a comet 40? If it's factory built, return it as a warranty claim. Somebody was asleep at the switch. If YOU instaled the 40, flip the dang driven around, already. It's backwards. If you have seen one that looks like yours, either IT was backwards, or you're looking at a different model TC.
And if it's NOT backwards, it's NOT a comet 40...

Hey Sleepy- Funny thing- My 11hp GX340 and Comet 40 combo look EXACTLY like yours except for color... Imagine that!!! ;)

Definently the wrong way round. I have mine the other way and it's a 40 series. I setup mine like comet told me, and it works fine.

Hey sleepy I'm going to turn it around just haven't had he chance yet!

And I wasn't trying to correct anyone, I was just saying what the others looked like and thats why I put it on that way, because theres looks like mine I didn't even think they might be two differant ones. I don't know enough about this to disagree thats why I asked for your help. Sorry if it sounded like I wasn't taking the advice. Thanks for the help and I'll let you know how it turns out!

Yep, keep us posted. Again, after you've turned it around, make sure the spacing is within 1/16" of spec, and all will be right with the world... Cheers

The driven works either way you put it.

I'm sure those two aren't the same models, But I'm just showing they can go either way. I spent a couple weeks looking and searching for a torque converter set, and tried to find which way the driven is supposed to go and thats what I found.
Not completely sure, but I think you might have to switch around the spring and wedge looking thing on the driven depending on which side it goes? (didnt have to switch mine)

I may be wrong I suppose but I've just seen countless pictures of Tav 30 and 40 series drivens flipped either way.

That is incorrect. The first pic you posted is of a 40 series, in the correct orientation. The second pic is a TAV 30 series, in its correct orientation, because it is a different design.

No, you've never seen a series 30 driven flipped the other way. I'll guarantee that. Series 30 is flat on one side and thus can not be mounted inboard. Series 20 or Max Torque set-ups can be mounted inboard if they have proper windings/springs.

You must pay attention to the winding of the spring and the color of the spring. On a series 40 clutch Yellow indicates outboard mounting, Red indicates inboard mounting. If all else fails or someone painted the spring or wound something wrong remember that the lobes must preceded the cam buttons. If the buttons ride first you have a problem.

Update...I finally had a chance to turn driven unit around and it works fine now. Not very fast though. This is how it's set up now...18 inch tires, 12 and 60 tooth sprockets, 11 hp engine.

Kart with no load I have throttle adjusted so the belt will max out to top of clutch, guestion is, when kart is running with load will that change that setting? And if I back off on the throttle stop more will the belt sling off the top of clutch or will it make it go further down on the driven and give me more speed?

ok thanks, I adjusted it on out, now I'm getting full throttle!

Oh and by the way, ya'll are all very observent looking at the pis on here, had alot of comments about the belt being to tight, after looking back at the pic I saw why everyone kept saying that! lol in that pic the motor wasn't bolted down and it was just slid to the back of the motor mount.

Well, what can I say. When someone askes for help, we do our best to help. When we ask for pics, we study them to try to diagnose the problem. Glad you're sorted out.
Cheers! Chris

Ah, made a liar out of me! :ack2:

So I should check my setup then?? I have my spring mounted inward. Not sure what color the spring is, I will have to look... however I have started the bike on the stand and they seem to work just fine.

The main thing is that you need to be checking the winding. Springs can change color very easily with a can of spray paint... if someone took it apart for maintenance one year noticed it was rusty and only had pink laying around you might just have a pink spring instead of yellow, red, green, blue, or orange. See which rides first when you look downwards on the clutch. Do your lobes come first or do the cam buttons?
