I have installed comet 40 TC and this is whats happening...When buggy is on a stand everything works fine, but when I took it for a test run the driver works correctly but the driven goes straight down to high gear when I accelerate. I've tried loosening and tightening the belt but either way once the RPM's are high enough to engage it shoots right back down to the bottom of driven.

Driven has RED spring. Is there a way to adjust tension? Or maybe would a stiffer spring work? And lastly, what color spring is the stiffest, how do the colors run? Thanks

I dont know about the 40 series but on the 30 there are 3 holes on the side of the driven. those are for setting the tention 1( is tightest 2( mid factory set defalt and 3( is loosest ..... wait maby thats backwards but any ways I'm sure some one on here knows.

I've read that! And I'm thinking I need a stiffer spring but it don't tell you which color spring has the most tension.

Mine only has one hole. I will look at it closer tomorrow in the day light to see if the spring is actually in the hole.

It's an 11hp Harbor Frieght engine. The manual says it runs at 3500 rpm.

Are those pictures with the engine running? The belt looks very tight (from that angle) if the engine is not running. Does your center distance match what the belt is designed for?

No it's not running, it is tight in this picture but not so tight that it creeps forward at idle speed. I also tried it loose and all positions in between.
I don't think it's on backwards, I took pics of a kenbar gokart and this is how it was set up on it.

Looks too tight to me, but pics can be deceiving.
My 40 had only one spring hole in the driven- I thought they all had three. Sooo-
I drilled a new hole...

EDIT- Looked at pic this time ignoring belt. That driven IS on backwards!!!

Ok I took another look at the buggy that I set mine up like and it looks the same to me. I tried to upload the pic but for some reason it keeps failing. I will keep trying to upload that pic so ya'll can see it.

Thats true! But it is a new factory built kart, no changes have been made, and the others in the store were all the same.

The way I understand it is you are supposed to set the center distance of the pullies to what the belt spec is supposed to be... If it isn't backwards, how does the belt not go all crooked when the drive pulley starts engaging. If you stand at the back of the engine, the drive pulley will push the belt to the right while the driven pushes it to the left?

i would take their advice and flip it around.. also i know that belt has got to be way to tight it looks like its just barely lose enough to not let it move forward which if thats true your going to go through belts like none other!! also that could be forcing the driven to open all the way with a load on it just my 2 cents take it for what it is but your stumped so were just trying to give some ideas and things to try

for got to tell you i read that the driver and driven need to be so far from each other not sure on spec's google is your best friend on those but if it is to close it wont move or have very little torque if its to far well im guessing it might do something like you are experiencing now i would check and see how far there supposed to be from each other and check to make sure your within spec's

... and just for S & G, what is the part number for that belt, and what is the exact center distance measurement between both of your pulleys in those pictures?
