need help 250cc wont start

hi everyone i just bought a 250cc dirt bike that i am going to use for my shifter kart
the problem is the bike wont kick start
and it was perfect it would start 1st kick but now it feels like theres noting there
i tried push starting it and it starts right up and idles good
any ideas
its also electric start

If I understand you right saying "like there's nothing there"
it might be the ratched;
might be just a loose bolt on the kickstarter stem,
if the e-start doesn't work either -depending on the model- the teeth of the flywheel I'm afraid.

But that means you should be able to push start the bike.

can you?

In any case, please provide some more infos, what bike/engine is it exactly, and please provide some pictures. Maybe we can spot something you haven't yet (unlikely I know.. but still possible)

i can push start it no problem and it idles good
its just when i kick start it in neutral and if i put my clutch in its d same compression
could it be the clutch cable ?

Sorry, that I didn't understand.
PLease explain:
same? No resistance or impossible to overcome resistance?
And if there is a different behaviour, when is that?

Of course you must start it either with the clutch lever pulled or in neutral (some bikes have a switch on the lever so it has to be pulled no matter if it's in neutral or not)
Since it's a four stroke you should have a decompression system, maybe that's causing problems (high resistance).

So.. hmm
if you only kick against the return spring of the kickstarter only (no resistance) my best bet would still be on the ratched;
if you simply can't kick it down, maybe the decompression isn't working properly or it's shifted outside it's working gearset.

I just read in a german forum that sometimes the valves are too tight on the engines,
not being able to fully close, so you'd kick without any compression;

XB 37 intake 0.1 mm; Out 0.15 mm
AGB 31 In and Out 0.1 mm
Maybe that's the case with yours too.

I'm a bit confused here myself so, let's try this:

You can roll start it & it starts fine, correct?

When you try to kick start it, in neutral with the clutch lever in, either
a) you can kick the lever down but it won't start or
b) the kick starter won't move.

Now onto the electric start, so far you've only mentioned that it's there, no comments on whether you've tried it...

got it sorted
I cleaned spark plug checked for spark = good
tightened kick start but still is kinda wobbly even when tightened
adjusted clutch cable
and away she goes im not sure what was the problem but its grand now

I need to get a new battery for it theres none on it at the moment everything is there for it and when I press the start button I hear a click even with no battery ?

i topped up d oil abit with 10w 40 semi
and now and then when d bike is warmed up theres alot of blue smoke coming out of d exhaust
would this be d oil i put in or a bigger problem?
also when the bike is cold just when i start it there is no smoke

Blue smoke indicates burning oil. As there's no smoke when it's cold & lots when it's warmed up, I'm gonna rule out worn piston rings (if the rings were worn, you'd have more smoke when it's cold) which means it's the oil itself; either it's the wrong grade for the engine or there's too much of it.

The reason for the two numbers in oil descriptions is there's a cold & a hot grade or viscosity because it thins as it heats up. Being that the most common grade these days is 10W-30, it's very possible the oil you used is too thin & is making it's way past the rings, creating the blue smoke...

Viscosity. 10w 30 is thicker for higher temperatures. 10w 40 is thinner for cooler temperatures. Since it starts smoking after it's warmed up, it's possible that viscosity is the problem.

However- as also mentioned; too much oil can cause the same symptoms. Since you said you only topped it off, this would be my guess. To noticeably change the viscosity, you would have to add over 25% of the existing oil. To make 10w 35, the oil would have to be 50% 10w 30 and 50% 10w 40.

U need to buy what ever type suits bike engines

U have a wet pack clutch like all bikes
That means the clutch is soaked in engine oil

Normal car oil will eat away the glue that holds the friction material on

Fully synthetic is better
But u pay for it

It's hard to tell if a litre will fill it
The specs of the engine will tell u

My Honda CM250 takes 1.8 lt
But a 1.5lt Toyota corrola only takes 1.3lt

but when it really warms up that's when it starts to smoke
and still has plenty of power
it kinda smokes then stops then smokes if u know wat I mean

10w-40 semi-synthetic
