Need assistance/advice on extending go kart frame.

Found out this morning that I just barely fit in the Azusa kart kit I bought. I've got a feeling it was designed for kids. Nevertheless I'm determined to make it more comfortable.

So how do I go about chopping up the frame and extending it? Any tips and/or suggestions are appreciated!

Make a front porch. Extend the front and move the pedals forward.

Easiest way.

Those Azuza kits are really small!! I don't blame you wanting to lengthen it.

I've seen a lot of them cut behind the seat and extended there too.

I can't weld myself (haven't learned yet) but I'll try to get a friend to help me with this. I'm thinking of cutting behind the seat bracket but in front of the bar running perpendicular on the top. Then making a cut about an inch after the bend on the bottom.

What kind of metal tubing do I need? Also I read somewhere on here about using 'slugs'?

Yup, cut in that section where the tubes are parallel. Once you've cut it, measure the outside diameter and wall thickness. Buy tube to match, and a short length (like 4 inches per joint) of solid round bar that matches the ID of the tube. You should be able to pick up a small chunk locally at a metal supplier or order it online.

The bar stock will slot inside so you're not relying solely on a butt weld for strength.

I would probably get the splice welded, but you could also drill and through bolt it.

Don't forget to do this. You then weld those holes as well.
