So I just went out and bought a fancy atv engine for cheap. I inspected the engine and it seemed to be good working order. The owner had been parting it out and had only sold off the carburator before deciding to sell it off as a whole. So it looked like a good engine and I decided, "what the heck? I can get a carb real quick and easy and have a decent engine with a transmission on my go kart". Which sounded a lot more fun than the Predator on it already. This was my mistake. I got online and found out to get a real manufacturer-made carb would cost $245 marked down from $304. I've been looking at cheaper options, but wanted an expert opinon. Are cheaper ones worth it? Are there other options that might be compatible? Could I modify a carb off a different engine? As can be assumed from my username, I am always looking to save a buck or two. I feel it might important to mention the model, too. It is a Suzuki LT185. Feel free to laugh or crack a smile. I'm kind of new to this stuff.

if you still have the manifold.. then there's no problem in finding a carb that fits

For all I know it came with a Mikuni slide carb (which are plenty to find, new and used all over ebay)
BUT you need to know the size.. I don't

OR what I would do is buy a used one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-87-Su...669652?hash=item23a971e754:g:eEQAAOSwEDtbjrVX

and clean it thoroughly

maybe add a new primer since that ones seems to be incomplete
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Carburetor...058084740?epid=9020350485&hash=item1a52c97784

and maybe rebuilt it with new jets/needles and gasket:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Carb-R...285442&hash=item590547f8c6:g:kOUAAOSwW9RaVwDV

you can find almost any part (carb body, float bowl, primer, floats etc) on ebay used..
spares like primer and rebuilt kits are available new...
heck even the manifold, intake pipe etc are available...
as you can see that isn't exactly cheap.. but still way cheaper than 245 ;)

Cheap?
I can find cheap...
OKO 36mm FlatSlide Carb...

Show us a pic of what you got. The manifold? Or Rubber Boot? Or Intake port? Take measurements. If no boot or manifold, then measure the bolt hole spacing around the intake port.

This forum says stock may be a VM22 carb, but I have no idea if that is correct.

This listing says a PWK 36mm will fit which is why I posted that OKO above (it is a PWK knockoff), but again... No idea if that is correct.
