Need advice.

Ok so right now I have a "racing" lawn mower. But I dont race it. And my friend is making a go kart. My goal is to make sure my lawn mower goes faster than his go kart when hes finished.
Right now He are my Tractor specs.
14.5HP Vertical Shaft Tecumseh.
6 Speed Transaxle
8 Inch Engine Pully and a 3 inch transxle pully.
And just a belt tensioner setup for my cluch.
Its top speed is about 22MPH.
This is what my friend is going to do.
He going to get a engine thats about 11 or 12 HP Maybe 8 HP.
With a centrifical clutch. No transmission. Just chain from clutch to rear axle. Dont know what his ratios are going to be.

What can I do to make sure he doesn't beat me?? Or just some ways to make my tractor faster. EASY WAYS.

Is that because he is not going to use a transmission? And it just basicly a direct link from engine to tires?

and belt driven slips when you have a tensioner, so you loose power there.

Pretty much, yes.
The 2 vehicles cannot be compared or matched up.

Well what can I do to make it faster? Can I get rid of the belt tensioner and just put a centrifugal clutch on the engine shaft and change the pulleys to sprockets and add chain? I now know I cant beat him now I just want to get it faster. So what can I do?

Sure, you can play with gearing. You can alter or remove the governor. You can do any of the common performance upgrades to the engine. As for your previous comment about the "easy ways", well- I guess that would depend on your definition of "easy", now wouldn't it?

I would get a 20hp vertical shaft, that is what we run in our john deere, a 20hp briggs v twin. Or you could get an old skool 22hp kohler twin. I have one in a stock garden tractor, and I can hold a wheelie for 20 feet (with out mower on it). also, if you get a used one they are as cheap as sh*t!
