Need Advice Please

Hello All,

I need some advice. My son bought this homemade kart and I need to buy a belt. I am not sure of the style clutch, it appears symmetric, and is 7 inches across, and 10.25 inches center to center from the tork converter. Any advice would be appreciated.

Looks like a comet 40 clutch. It is symmetrical.

You will need to take the whole thing apart and polish the sheaves and lube the internals with a dry lube.

Other wise you will ruin a new belt in the first day.

Sorry I don't know the proper belt for you but some one here will pop in and help you out with that.

30 series is Asymmetrical and uses a 6" or 7" secondary pulley.
40 series is Symmetrical and uses a 7.5" or 8.5" secondary pulley.

So if it is a Symmetrical and uses a 7" secondary pulley, I don't know what it is? Looks like a 40 series driver.
40 series Driver with a 7" 20 series Driven?

If it is a 40 series with 7.5" secondary pulley...

My mistake I must have read the the distance you posted wrong, Or I read the chart wrong.

If it is a 40 series 7.5" driven at 10.25 center to center spacing.

I have not ordered yet. But I do have a different question. We were cleaning the clutch and it seems as though the side that is supposed to slide over for engagement does not. It seems welded. All of the videos I watch show the clutch should come into three pieces when i take it apart. This is what I am stuck at. I have tried forcing and or beating it apart but noothing. Is this correct?

Soak with pb blaster. Let it sit soak it some more. Perhaps some heat.

Patience is key. If you can get a little movement and then it binds again soak some more.

And don't for get the driven unit. It needs some love too.

I guess that means it is supposed to slide then.
I soaked it overnight in CLR, I think perhaps I have a new one in my future.

Ya... not a good idea to immerse these in acid... They are a precision device...
Not to mention the springs are most likely compromised. If it does get to a running state... I reckon it'll 'splode real good...
