I want to build a powered wagon for my mom and sister, who sell stuff at crafts shows. Imagine this with power:

I'm picking up a little go-cart frame with sprocket on the straight axle tomorrow. I need advice on what motor to use and what size sprocket (I'll have to come back with tire diameter). Max speed would be walking speed. It will carry maybe 200 pounds of craft products and occasionally some top soil/mulch/whatever for lawn and garden. I was thinking of a motorcycle battery. Does that sound like a good idea?

Thank you, Lee

Nope. Motorcycle batteries are generally just stock black SLA batteries. No difference from ones in wheelchairs, UPSes, or electric scooter and toys.

For you, you'll be wanting to use some deep cycle marine batteries or something like that. Something like Yellow Top batteries...

And then a nice 500-1000W motor geared LOW.

Rascal scooter motor with tires go for pretty cheap on ebay. Controllers are around 50 bucks.two small gell batteries and you are cruising.

Wow. I hadn't even thought of wheelchair or power scooter parts. Great advice. I did not go get the go-cart frame.

Thanks, guys.

I have two new batteries,12 AH
rascal scooter motor with differential and axle
Controller with Joystick
I paid quite a bit for this stuff and then went (much) larger but I am willing to take a loss. How does 200 bucks plus shipping sound?

Sounds good but I don't have it right now. Mom and sis aren't paying for this. They don't even know about the idea. I just want to build it for them.

How old are you? are you a student? have you built stuff like this before? I ask for a good reason.

If you're thinking about student discount, I'm not eligible. I'm a working man. I had to go through a low-paying apprenticeship and now I'm getting caught up on my debts. I just don't have much money for now.

Yeah,I was thinking about a student discount. It seems like I am an old man around here and I sometimes assume that most of the people here are teenagers..although very mature, driven teenagers..I wish some of these guys lived near my shop.I would hire one of them in a heartbeat.
