Need advice on 24 volt motors

Whowhee! Nice scooter there. Just wondering, but wouldn't that be a TAD slow? 3:1 gearing, 6" tires, and two hugebutt 20aH batteries? Range should be amazing (20aH! )

But on the other hand, wouldn't all that weight bog the motor a bit?

It doesn't bog the motor at all (it's a 600w motor). I live in cali, so legally an electric scooter cannot go faster than 15MPH. Mine does about 20 or so, so top-end is fine. The range is good, I built this as a daily driver to go to work. I would ride it about 10 miles a day and charge it daily. It wouldn't ever start to die out, so it probably has a much greater range, but I don't wanna test it.
In the concrete warehouse at work I could drift corners, do doughnuts (with a water puddle) wheelies, and it could cruise 200lb friends around. I think the gearing is perfect for this setup. If I did modify it at all, I would make it have multiple gears to get a greater top-end, and watch out for the police...lol

Well I really gotta try those 600W motors then! Running them at the rated stock voltage they were made for I suppose?

yup, running it at 24volts. I got the motor brand new from a currie replacement part website. I would definitely recommend one for basically any small vehicle project like mine or perhaps an electric bike or something.

I hate to bring up a long dead thread here. mattlepperd Do you still have a source for the 24v .83 hp motors on the cheap? I am looking for a motor to power a kart to tow some kids around in. 24v .83 hp sounds about right if I gear it correctly.
