im planning on making a very fast a responsive kart but street legal .. im going to use a salveged title from a mini cooper for this ... but anyways i have the frame and body all fabricated to a mini lambo look im having some questions on how i would be able to take the R1 engine i have and put it in the sucker .. and eventually have some one install a paddle shifter or some kinda of manumatic with out losing any performance from this motor.... also having trouble finding a tranny that would be compadable to make that motor work with a kart ... and where would i be able to get these parts nessacary .. unless i can take things of the salvaged bike like the electronics and wires??

oh btw i just learned that there a tranny in the engine so a direct install to the front or rear axel would fix that problem .. what kind of shifter or clutch would work the best

yeah.. i have generator welder and the essential tools ... everything is already done....i just need to configure the motor and wire it together ... so probably a months more of planning and looking at my engineering software to put in the the right place ... the only thing is how the shifter would work .. can i just use clutch cables for the clutch and put it on the steering wheel and use a push pull cable for the shifter cable and just fabricate it to the original foot shifter ya know ... come on give some ideas that work so im not wasting time and money..

Push pull cables will be fine, thats what im doing on my offroad shifter kart, and just run a normal cable for the clutch but i think attaching it to a foot pedal would be much cooler.

ok r1 engine should have the clutch in the motor all you need is to hook up a shifter and clutch cable can mount on stearing or by pedal me i would have gas brake on right clutch on left .. my friend he drilled a hole in the frame rail and bolted a hurst shifter handle and ran a rod from the handle to the gear leaver. man make sure your brakes are good cus he has a kawi motor on his zx6 motor to be exact and he can bairley stop with 4 wheel disk. and even tho its street legal you will have problems with the cops...they wont beleave its real or leagal so they will prolly pull you over every chance they get i know i would lol. but thats just me i know cops i have 10 on my block alone all with in 7 houses of me

yeah deffly ... im actually thing about fabricating a front wheel disc to the back axel as well and just use the hardware from the bike and just run the wire right and just configure it right.. that would work right

the sell good disk brakes made for speed and huns that mount to the axle like for race karts and yes run a cable from the pedal to the juice box "brake selinoid" and from brake selinoid to the caliper in rear. if you need fab up a bracket and hub that can mount a car disk brake and rotor dont know how you would do that?????

true... and that would take a quite a bit of work to do that... its going to take a little bit of thinking if i want some top notch braking sytem

if you have teh money id get a mini air compressor and a small air tank. take 2 fast air sylenoids and 2 electric pneumatic switches. switches go to paddle shifters, and air goes to sylenoids that move the shifter up and down as needed. ive seen it used many times before. simple and those sylenoids move pretty fast

And what happens when you need to go into neutral (half way between first and second)?
Also, when you hit the paddle it MUST cut the spark to the engine for a few milliseconds while it changes gears, to take the load off the engine, if you want your gearbox to last more than 10 km.

IMO it's a waste of time and money since a gear lever and linkage is SO much cheaper, more reliable, and you can shift gears REALLY fast anyway. Also you can get into neutral when you want.

on my engine nuetral is like a gear to itself. you have to shift through it. BTW those kits cut power for you, or you just use the clutch :D

Logic suggests that the more gadgetry involved, the more likely failure. If it were me, I'd much rather have a solid linkage between me and the detent lever, as opposed to relying on pneumatic wizardry that set me back $$$ that could have been spent on performance.

yeah i got away from the paddle shifters im just going to rely on the old fashioned way of shifting ... push the clutch in and shift then let the baby out and watch your tires just smoke all the rubber off... lol .. and take the money i have and use it towards better axels and a braking system .. it would be nice to have them... but im not going to pay to lose power .. when i could pay to gain it .. logics equals performance

Really? So you have to shift the lever twice when going from 1st to 2nd?
On mine you have to give the lever half a pull to get into neutral. Some bikes actually use the pattern N-1-2-3-4-5, and they would work well with the pneumatics, but otherwise...

yeah. the uni im probably going to has a formula one team. every year they make a mini F1 car with a gsxr600 engine. thats where i first saw the pneumatic shifter.

if i go im gonna join and my dad wont be able to tell me i cant do it :devil2:

uni.. university ....... are you joining a race team or going to a school for being a tech for the car ...
i want to do both ... ??? well any way thanks for the advice everyone .. going out to the junk yard to find some push pull cables then to the parts unlimited book for my performance parts.. since its a bike motor ... its going to be a bad *** ride when im done ..
