actually you can get the bolt on parts for a remote kill switch from radio shack or other electronic store for remote control robot or rc cars and trucks my son called and told me about it i think some of the imported quads have one on them

Oh. a remote kill.. i thought he wanted a throttle/speed restrictor.. which for another thought, change gearing to limit the speed.. but bolt idea is better as you can re-adjust for the bigger boys etc, no ripping apart etc or changing as kids grow up..

as for a remote kill, i bought a remote switch from wallmart for like 30$

had 2 buttons, 2 outputs...

you would have to have power to it, of course, but just wire it up to a relay to switch the power on n off.. could even use it for an actual remote start as well since it has 2 buttons.. lol

I used it to turn accessesory lighting on n off on the talon back when i had it..

downside is, it was only good for about 30-50 feet away, so youd have to be chasing em on another machine or something or restrict them to a small riding area..

If battery hassle is the problem, I'd be looking at retrofitting a tiny gas engine (25cc-50cc) to the electric. Cheap weed eater or similar, with bicycle sprockets/parts for gearing?

i own an electric start 43cc motor and it has built in reduction, it got me going pretty good on my trike thing when i had a 33t rear, and on my pit bike it had a 55t rear with 18" rear wheel.

@ toystory_4wd, yeah the clutch would be a problem...
Belt drive with a belt-slip "clutch" operated off the throttle lever position - too complicated?
