yikes. walmart and welder scare me in the same sentence.

look into an entry level mig from a reputable manufacturer. hobart, lincoln electric, miller. they're all nearly the same and work great. I purchased a hobart handler 140 from northerntool.com quite a few years back. (right now you get a free welding cart with purchase) At the same time i bought a 60lb argon/co2 tank from arcet gas and its been working flawlessly ever since. If you buy the tank from them (instead of renting) you never have to pay to have it certified aka pressure tested and its only $30 (including all enviro fees) to get it filled. all in all i payed $700 for my setup and i am very glad i did. clean, strong welds on various thicknesses from sheet metal to 1/4" plate and and .120 wall tubing.

No experience with that, but for that money you are better off searching craigslist for a used name brand MIG welder. Lincoln, Miller, and Hobart all make good machines.

As far as new machines go, this is probably your best option,
http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200447703_200447703
-Good warranty warranty
-within budget
-lots of technical support/customer service
-Made in the USA
-MIG capable

That said the Lincoln electric "handy core" 88A flux core welder, and the Hobart handler 140 are both excellent machines.

I've got a Century and have been rather happy with it. They were bought out by Lincoln Electric some time ago.

sometimes its just a kick *** deal, probably manufacturer incentive for northern if they sell a certain amount.
