I am about to attempt to rebuild myself a flathead for the first time. I just acquired a 1978, 130202. I tore the engine completely down, beautiful on the inside. Doesn't look like its even been broke in. The man I acquired it from said it has been sitting on his shelf for 15 years. So before I haul the block to the machine shop. I would like to have a plan on parts. I do want this motor above average. I am not sure which direction to head on crank, cam, lifters, valves etc etc. Any advice would be helpful. I have been running in circles for a week now reading over lots of information and opinions.

Also .... I just plan on running this thing around the neighborhood. So I have no restrictions.. Money is not a real big issue I am not going to get in a hurry. I would really like this engine to last so I do not want to go to the max on the mods.

Did you see LeeMajor's thread? It's a good, long read chock full of info.

Kentucky Boy started with a flatty on his extensive Streaker build but decided he wanted to use a OHV.

That is the one. I'll apologize for the forum right now--it's populated by Predator 212cc cultists.
Hardly anyone will bother with an older engine, or one in unknown condition. Not to mention such an archaic engine as a flathead.

No worries ...... I am definetly tired of seeing predator 212cc everyplace I look. The flathead build is more of a nostalgia thing and also to be able to say I have done that. This reminds me of a 1979 jeep cj-5 I bought 12 years ago. Parts were limited and mostly stock. All I seen when I went looking for cj-5 parts was wrangler, rubicon etc etc.
