Hi,

We recently bought a used Mini Dwarf to race at a dirt oval. I was not as familiar with the Briggs as I should have been and it turned out that this engine had an aftermarket carb (Mikuni) to run in the modified class. Since we are starting in the stock class we need to reinstall the stock carb.

So I bought a stock Briggs carb (#798653) but am now completely puzzled as to how to mount it. First the carb hit the heat shield, so I figured that I needed a carb mounting plate which it appears to be nothing more than a spacer? Now where I'm really puzzled is the throttle. I need a spring return and to attach the existing throttle cable. Is there a mounting plate to make this happen? How has everyone else done this? The butterfly valve seems to work backwards as to how I think it should. It needs to turn clockwise to open which puts the throttle mounting points right up near the engine.

If anyone has any pictures of a stock carb set up with the covers gone I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

That sounds like the carby on my 3hp briggs. I had to manufacture a return spring & linkages (but that's just me).

We looove pics around here; post a couple & we'll see what we can do to help.

Before we get the throttle together, we must know whether the class you're racing in requires the engine to be "governed". If the governor must be intact and functioning, you have a lot to address before making a throttle connection. If the governor is not a concern, it's easy.

The class my daughter is running in doesn't require a governor. The rules state that we have to run the stock carb and intake, but we can modify the air inlet.

I'm going to try to insert a picture of the engine as it is now. Hopefully I'll be able to get it to work!

The gas tank is remotely mounted. You can see the carb inlet to the motor in the lower right. The engine is a 126312-0023, and from the identification post that was put up here, it appears to have been built in 2004.
