Neck Brace/Collar Info?

Hey- Any of you guys use neck braces in your various motorsports? The mower racing league will require one next year, so I did some homework. Ended up buying an EVS RC Evolution off Kijiji. Good condition and seems to fit pretty well, but I don't know jack about them.

What do you guys use? Tips/ tricks/ general advice? I didn't get a manual, and haven't found one yet- so I'm trying to figure out the finer points of adjustment. How do you tell when you're adjusted exactly right?

Unfortunately I have zero experience with this types of safety gear, but I'm glad to see you will be using it. I have been trying to get my hands on a used HANS device that I can wear in my buggy, but they are just so expensive.

To be truthful, I have no problem with the concept. I don't make a habit of crashing, but I'm going to be on a loose track with a bunch of OTHER lunatics- greatly increasing my odds of an "incident". I'll take some protection. I'm not getting any younger.

I think these things are along the same general lines as a HANS system.

Safety gear is great stuff, a good day starts and ends with you in one piece! I think the main difference between this and a HANS is that the HANS anchors to the helmet, which as far as I can tell this doesn't do. If it does then I cannot see a major difference. As for your prize...?

This does not attach to the helmet. The "frame" - if you want to call it that wraps from your back, over the top and your shoulders to your chest. The straps hold it on around your arms/ribs, with an option to secure it to a chest protector.

There was once a time when I thought safety gear was "uncool". To heck with it. I'm too smart to be that stupid. (Or something). Besides- If everybody else is quite literally up their necks is safety gear, I won't look any dumber than the rest of 'em!

And as dumb as I might look with this horse collar on, I'm pretty sure I'd look even dumber with a broken neck!

That neck brace sure looks better than a halo! Looks like a high end unit. Wish I could help more. I've always just used a Simpson neck collar. I've looked at some like that but they are $$$. Guess they're a lot cheaper than a broken neck....

$ is the best part- $120 very gently used. Everything including protective bag. That's WAY cheap 'round here!

That looks a like a good deal. In are racing series, we are required to wear, neck brace, rib protector, full hand gloves and arm restraints. Also a full face helment with a snell rating of at least 95. No shorts and no low cut shoes. I use a full racing suit with leather pads on the elbows and knees. If your racing a gage kart, you must have a five point harness, along with the above named equipment. I have seen a lot of wrecks over the years and when a driver is thrown out of the kart. It usally results in a broken collar bone.

On an open kart? how does this work? I don't understand why you'd want your arms tied to a machine you hope to be thrown clear of- Or am I misinterpreting something?

The arm restraints have a body harness that attaches to you, not the kart. The rule was orginally for rookie drivers. To keep their arms from flying out when they get banged around on the track. But some of the rookie Dads got to cripen that everyone did not have to wear them, so they just made the rule manditory for all classes.
