Hi All, I'm modifying an old naskart (promo kart) for my kids and need your help on gear ratio. Replaced old motor with Predator 212. Installing a torque converter with an 11t. I have 12" wheels so anything more than a 54 tooth wheel sprocket would be tough to fit. My question is should I go with a 54t or 40t? The kart will primarily be used on a small circle track with a very steep hill. I would like for the kart to be geared so both kids and adults can climb the hill without getting bogged down. As per the options, 54 is the way to go based on your needs, that's a 4.9:1 gear ratio but with 12" tires you SHOULD be okay. If it's still not working as well as you hoped then a 10 on the TC would be the way to go, under 10 teeth is only good if you anticipate changing the sprocket and chain often but something to try before going that far would be to set the driven pulleys (wound) spring to the hole that gives it the most tension as that will help keep it in "low gear" longer and is better for hills and weight.
