I bought the exact kit and was wondering how is it working. I plan on installing it on a razor dune buggy and was glad I found this forum. I'm still trying to figure out were the brake wire is on the controller.

Razor dune buggy here as well. I had to order a 10 mm duel d bore sprocket for the motor to fit#25 chain and create a new bracket to mount motor. Throttle from razor was easily wired tnew controller.

These Boma 48V 1,800W motors usually comes with a sprocket for 8mm chain.

I usually get my sprockets from Alfa Wheels.

They have sprockets for #25 chain

Mine had a t8f sprocket with a 10 mm duel d bore. I got my sprocket off one of those scooter websites. You can probably get it much cheaper on ebay or amazon.

I'm modding the dune buggy for myself. I plan on riding it on flat paved surface and sometimes on grass. Now I'd read that adding the 1800w motor will slightly increase the top speed but greatly increasing torque. To increase the top speed it's suggested to remove the jackshaft. I'm still research this idea but will probably go in this direction. Does anyone have recommendations on how I would go about doing this.

You potentially add a 5th battery and overvot the motor. That should up the rpm and get you a higher rpm.

What gear ratios are you working with?

How big/heavy of a dune buggy?

* Motors can (sometimes) be overvolted but, NOT speed controllers
Adding a fifth battery (48V + 12V = 60V) will probably burn out your controller.

FYI
Most 12V batteries are fully charged at ~13.3V (13.3V x 4 = 53.2V)
So, a 48V speed controller can handle up to ~54V or 55V but, NOT 60V

Everything on the dune buggy is stock for adding a three battery. I believe the gear ratio 8.46:1. The driver weighs about 185lbs. For now i plan on installing the new motor then sometime later mess with the gear ratio.

The brushless motor and controller came in yesterday and i did a bench test today. It ran but i realized the rpms visually seem a bit slow compared to stock my1016 running at 36v. I'm charging all four batteries tonight and will try again tomorrow.

Yeah I have to agree. It states it is rated at 4500 RPM but visually its somewhat disappointing. I actually mounted it in the Dune Buggy, built a new chain for it and throttled it up and looking at the tires I'm guessing I'm not going to get any speed increase, in fact I may get a decrease. I had a 24 volt 500 watt motor over volted at 36 volts paired with a 36 volt 1000 watt controller and it was moving pretty good, I just wanted more torque and thought I would get the best of both worlds with this 48 volt 4500 rpm motor. I imagine it will have a ton of torque but the speed is just not going to get there. It would be easy enough to bypass the third sprocket to help with speed, I may do that after I get it all put back together.

Can you post any pictures of how you mounted the motor? Also, can you tell me where did you purchased the sprocket for the motor? I bought the one listed below but it didnt fit the stock chain.

Have you started selling your sprockets through alfa wheels? :O

I had to grind down the original MY1020 D-sprocket to nothing but the bore and weld on a 12mm 12T #35 to get my MY1020 to work with a #35 chain. It would be nice to get the proper size without all the work.

Yup, I sold the whole batch of Power Curve sprockets to Alfa Wheels.

I do not understand why these motors come with sprockets for (little dinky) #25 chain or sprockets for (oddball) 8mm chain.
Last summer I spent many hours looking for a sprocket, for a #35 chain, to fit the MY-1020 & Boma motors.
No one had them & they even claimed that they could not special order them or have a batch custom made either.

Sometimes if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself

I did some research, made some inquiries & placed my own order

I figured a lot of others would want some for their projects but, I don't really sell stuff so, I looked around & found a reputable store (distribution outlet) so this way everyone that wants one has easy access

I am not sure what ALL motors that the Power Curve sprockets will fit on but, I have used them on brushed MY-1020's, YT's motors & also on the Boma brushless motors.

I mounted it by taking a piece of laminate flooring I had in the garage and drilling holes to mount that to the frame. I then drilled the holes in the laminate for the motor and mounted it. That motor has crazy torque and the top end isn't bad. It throws my kids back in their chair and they can drive that Dune Buggy off road like it should have come all along. It came stock with a 250 watt 24 volt motor. Now has 1800 48 volt. Pretty cool. They also have a new (Xmas) razor rsf 650. That has a stock 650 watt 36 volt motor. Since it was close to 500 bucks, I'm not messing with that. Its pretty fast stock.

I have pretty much the same motor and controller for a mini bike that I decided to go electric with and I would like to say for the record DO NOT connect the small red and black connector that on the wiring diagram is still in Chinese, it translates to theft power or something along those lines but I will say for a fact if you connect them together you will get a large spark and a poof that melts melt the connector ask me how I know... I though it was something for the brake system that even has the exact same connector as the electric bike brake levers but I am just going to go out on a limb and say it is some sort of connection for a voltage gauge but it will short and it will melt if you try to jumper it together...

Didn't take but, a few minutes to figure out most...
BUT!!!! I'm sending a copy of the wire diagram you all posted to the fiancé in Vietnam... She also speaks Mandarin Chinese^__^ I hope she can help!? I can not figure what the three harness' connected with jumpers could be for? But, One is display I think it's a selfie. One is for the converter which could be the 12v for accessories to use? One is marked 2.9-9 which may be voltages???
Break down:
red/blk thin labeled charge - charger.
lght bl/blk labeled cruise - add toggle to turn on cruise control. DANGEROUS for the little ones!!!
brwn/blk/wht - throttle.
Hall to hall.
phase to phase.
heavy red/blk - battery.
red/org - key switch/toggle.
yel/blk/bl labeled 3 speeds this is actually two BUT, no connection is medium which is factory default. yel/blk is slow and bl/blk is fast.
Double gry - Speed limit cuts motor power to 50% add toggle if used.
red/blk thin with the funny blk plug I'm NOT SURE but, I think it's the power indicator Maybe, the brake for the motor???
I've not tested anything yet I get my battery in a couple days and I need to get out the meter and "schtuff" Hope, this helps I'll post soon as I hear from the little lady^__^ live long and ride sweet!
