picked this up on craigslist as a trade, had stock tecumesh 6hp wich felt very underpowered with the big rear tires,but ran good so I got it,chain broke on test drive and had wrong tq converter belt on it so I replaced both...then I swapped in a NEW stage 2 predator 212, genuine Honda carb bored to .650,
18lb springs,cone filter,8* timing key,upgraded fan,and ARC
header and mini muffler, top speed was logged gps at 27mph with old motor and now is 35mph,like to get it to 40mph via cam,rod and flywheel getting some more rpms out of it,any thoughts,suggestions?

One question I had myself, you upgraded springs, but did you upgrade to a billet rod as well?

lol sorry about that,im used to my car forums..
no not yet,rod,flywheel and cam are next on the list...got a few small things on cart I need to fix,cracked spindle and no seat belts lol...
I'm torn on what cam to get..obviously like to get to 40mph but still have some decent low end? mod2 comes to mind but I really don't want to strain the motor revving the crap out of the cart as its a bit heavy,seen they have a marine stlye cam for 5k and under applications? curious if that will give me the 40mph and still nice lowend?

In a nutshell, top speed is determined mainly by gearing, I'm not understanding how, by only replacing the engine, you gained 8mph; the only reasonable explanation is that the TC is now fully engaging because the new engine has the torque to do so, whereas, the tired old Tec engine couldn't...

If you replace the conrod with a billet item & remove the governor, the extra RPM should give you the extra 5mph you're looking for...

I personally would be worried about the stock rod grenading myself right now, but thats me.

How about you give us some more specs: rear tire size, current fixed gear ratio, and approx weight of kart+driver. You may be able to tweak it a bit to hit that 40.

Given the information provided, I'm not; nothing was mentioned about the governor by the OP so, one would assume it's intact & working...

True, nothing was mentioned about the governer, gov'na. I also assumed that since it was at stage 2 and they were trying to get more speed that they had removed the governer because that would be the obvious thing to do to get to a higher top speed.

You know what they say when we assume things though....

So which is it fastion, the governer intact or not gov'na?

yes governor is still in,3600 rpms is all she is revving too..
and it has 20" tires and 60 tooth axle sprocket and I haven't counted the jackshaft sprocket but assume its 10 or 12

top speed stock is 28 mph so 35 is great. My nephew rolled the one we had so be careful around the turns, those front shocks really make it tip over.

If the governor is still in I would focus on buying two parts now:

1) direct throttle linkage kit
2) tachometer

I think you are going above 3600 rpms because there is no way you would get 35 mph instead of the 28 at the same 3600 rpms, unless you changed the gearing (10t/60t is stock)....... how do you know that it is revving that high?

I have no idea whats it revving all i know is the governor is there and the rods/springs are there and working,so i assume its still 3600 rpms,all i did was back the throttle stop screw all the way back so arm didnt hit it,i will get a tach before i remove the govenor and get video

well I started project " BLACK WIDOW " today lol,my daughter named it
pretty much stripping it down,and painting it black,did the valve cover and tq converter red for a lil dress up, also seats are getting redone in carbon fiber like fabric,replaced a spindle that was cracked,got new front tires to go on,then I'm putting a new rear brake in,and 3 point seat belts...stay tuned!

will get touched up,cant wait to get her done,so I can crack into the motor some more!

lol tq converter is fine,took it for run today..got it in some mud lol actually did pretty good,kicking up rooster tails, anyways ordered billet rod,flywheel, and mod2 cam
