allo folks of DIY :auto:

after a LONG time of let me do this... no this... wait this, the server crash of december actually helped me clear away those threads :D

anyway, ill be building a vintage looking cart with a H60 tecumseh. the engine, btw, i hope to mod the HELL OUT OF.

Parts i have so far:

steering wheel, bearings, pitman arm, tie rods.
lots of scrap steel tube from a crappy home made frame.
a differential and double D bore axle.
sprocket, #40 chain? ill check, but the teeth are HUGE.
seat, i might wanna clean it and maybe put in new padding.

heres most of the frame that im currently re designing.

after a nights work.

i was thinking of a rear swing arm, but im most likely not now that i see what it will look like.

heres the diff

im going to buy pillow block bearings for the axle to replace the crappy bushings it had.

so i hope to work on this slowly and as i get the cash ill get it done!

almost forgot... the engine. i painted it, but i regret painting over it after just washing it down. its bubbling and looking like crap.

Man, that motor looks like it's toast! Does it run?

Happy you made up your mind about what you were gonna do, lol.

Looking good so far!

ill bet the motor hasnt run in at least 15-20 years. lol. i almost had it running, but all of a sudden it had no spark anymore and turns out the coil went bad and i cant revive it now especially because i broke a wire off accidentally :censored:

so im looking at options on milling out parts of the block, going to definately have no governor, and almost all the parts in the motor in going to re use. if all goes well, the only part ill need is an ignition coil.

the motor is a 6HP (roughly 160-180cc) that came off an arien's snowblower from the mid 1960's early 1970's.

Man... If you get that motor running, my hats off to ya. :worried2:

I would definitely clean the top of that piston along with those valves... Try and get some of the crap off of them. How do the cylinder walls look?

Not bad! At all! I would just clean the top of the piston and clean those valves. Don't judge a book by it's cover I guess. :roflol:

What shape is the carburetor in?

Unfinished projects king.

Hook a car or motorbike coil up to the original points, have that hooked up to a motor bike battery, just recharge the battery in between drives, it will last hours anyway.

Thanks

carbeurator is non existent :ack2: ill be using an 8hp b&s carb.

also the muffler was rusted so i tried buffing it with a flap weel only to find out that it was thin as tin foil :censored:

so i might use a 8hp b&s pipe as well, lol

seems to me like it was a low hours engine, but it was kept outside 24/7.

Looks like you've got your work cut out for you.
Replacing the bushings with bearings is a solid idea, but do you really want to use that diff? I think you'll find the performance disappointing- I built my kids' kart with a very similar diff, and although it steers VERY well, the traction ain't what it could be. On pavement it's okay, but forget drifting. On low traction surfaces, it's very disappointing.
Just a head's up in case you're not aware.

How do you plan on handling braking? With that diff, you either need a brake on both sides of the diff, or one right on the housing, which also bears a liability.

EDIT- one other thing- Do you have the centre brackets for the rear axle hangar? That diff/axle assembly needs four bearings for support...

i do have it.

by the way, since im really short on money, you think i can weld up the diff? i mean that is if i cant afford a new axle.

the brake would be a band around the diff housing. thats the way it was set up in this kart's last life.

Hey, how's the build going Bluethunder? Any updates?

slow... but as of this morning my friend was parting out his riding mower and he is giving me all 4 tires and rims in exchange for me helping him build his 6.5hp pit bike!!

yeea!

and i am slowly restoring the engine... right now the crank case cover is soaking in gas to remove the paint. its been there a few days lol.

already tried thinner... and gas seems to work better but it smells horrible.

i have tried some paint stripper gel, and it works, by bubbling up the paint. however, it will be a PITA to get out of the cooling fins!

Find a sandblaster. That's probably the simplest way to get in there.
