I've been trying to teach my son how to make his money make more money instead of just buying shoes and games with his profit. He is 14 and mows lawns for about $60-$80 a week and he saved up about $250(most ever saved) for some shoes.I talked him into looking for a go kart to flip for profit and buy his shoes with that.He said lets do it but I want ride it a few week before we sale.I said thats one of the perks of flipping go karts.
So our hunt started. We looked thru craigslist, facebook, and local ads and didn't find no good deals. So we got up early one Saturday and went yard sale hopping.A few hours in we found it.A Manco Eliminator 2-seat go kart for $300.It wont start and has been sitting in his garage for 10yrs and grand kids only drove it 1 year.We offered him $250 but he said lowest he would go is $275 so I pitched in $25.We have our first go kart flipper.I will post the flips we have done so far.

Awesome thread! Ive been thinking about doing the same. I bought this kart for $70 intending to do a full resto/build but am starting to rethink doing that and might sell it for profit instead.

Cost of kart w/ gx200 parts engine: $70
New 208cc clone: $120
Throttle linkage parts: $10
Misc cleanup/ rust removal: Free

Total Investment: $200 and only a couple hours work.

Im confident i can at least double my money.

I love working on things so this is a great way to keep me busy, while also giving me some extra cash for the project car. Anyways love seeing other people flipping karts, keep it up!

Flipping go-karts is great for anyone to do, for a child it teaches so many lessons, budgeting, hard work, how to negotiate, and how money can grow with just a little help. The satisfaction of a job well done, is rewarded in bigger profits.

I have been flipping karts, bikes, cars and even tractors my whole life, the best advice I could share is always buy a complete gokart (whatever you are into building), no basket cases. You will over spend rebuilding basket cases and loose your profit.

Encourage your son to keep a log with pictures, he can look back and see how his small investment has grown and how he is actually using others people money to make more money, the best part is the time spent with his father which is priceless.

Congratulations.

Yeah it's been a battle stopping him from buying the wrong go karts.Craigslist right now just has either money pits or market priced karts. We hit the hwy 127 5 state long yard sale the other weekend for 6 hrs and found the same thing.

We did find a project to keep us busy till we find one.Found a perfect condition Razor E150 24v electric scooter for $15.But the batteries were shot.So we picked up a nice craftsman 26cc weed wacker for $12.If it turns out like I think it will we should be able to get $200.

All tore down ready to start fabricating.
