My snowmobile kart project

So I purchase this big go-kart, and was told that it was a homebuilt kart with 340 snowmobile engine. Thats about all that i know from the engine. Its top speed is about 65mph, and only problem it has was i need to get new gas throttle and brake linkage. The 2 top front roll cage pieces had broke off a little and needs some welding, what I probally end up doing is cut the cage off. The rear 2 tires are GoodYear tubeless 21X11.00 that are flat and need to be replace. This gonna be a good summer project. I will keep update on the project for now here are some pictures.

Going that fast, and with those tires, I hope you don't try to drift or do powerslides. Especially after you remove (hopefully you don't) the roll cage.

i dont have a welding machine and seem like the easier route to go is cut it off not unless i find a way to bolt it down. As for the tires i am looking for an easy fix. I search around and price for one is ridiculously expensive. I might try a can of fix flat and see how that works out.

Buy a $100 fluxcore mig new or get a used ~230 amp stick welder (harder to learn but can do more, also needs a 50 amp outlet) and fix it, it will become your #1 favorite tool.

or bring it to a welder or a muffler shop and have them weld it for cheap. either way cutting it off is just ridiculously risky unless you're gonna swap in a 5hp utility motor and go 20mph. with a nicely welded cage you dont need to worry about rolling so you can have more care-free fun and be safer at the same time.

as for fixing tires, the one method that works in long term use is the rubber you melt. it looks like a little rubber string you stick inside the hole, then you light the end and it melts and seals the hole. we went from miami to quebec city on one of those and had no trouble (thats the entire north american continent) so some offroad backyard fun should be nothing for it if properly done.

on the other hand, any of those flat tire fixers in a can are just a very temporary fix to get you home or somewhere you can replace the tire or get it fixed. its not designed for more than a few days of use and the stuff will disintegrate after it wears off.

x2!! Also, the cage adds some rigidity to the chassis... Definitely keep a cage of some kind in place; your next of kin will thank you...

Where can I get one of those rubber you melt from? And are you serious you drove from miami to qubec in a gokart that's crazy.

lol i would be dead on so many occasions. no this was like 10 years ago in an old chevy, but thats 3500lb spread over 4 tires, so i think the stuff will hold up your 40-60lb of kart lol

i just saw some at pepboys, any auto store should have it. pepboys had a kit for $3.99 called "tire repair kit" and it has 4 or 5 of those rubber worms, and a couple of T shaped tools to shove the worms in, then you just light on fire the stuff thats left sticking out till it melts onto the tire. obviously it wont put itself out so watch it or else your tire adventure may be expensive...
(the mechanic in florida lit it with his cigarette but i dont support smoking, so just use something else thats highly flamable :Angel_anim: )

Haha thanks for the heads up. I will make sure I pick one up when Im out. I pretty much spend my time playing with my new traxxas t-maxx that I got lately haven't had a chance to work on the gokart. I wreck my t-maxx other day so gonna purchase parts for it and in the meantime work on the gokart.

A little rubber plug isnt gonna fix the tire unless it has a hole in it, cracked sidewalls are tube time.

here are some more picture to help identify the engine. i plan to have electric startup not sure if it will work with this. i found a black plug and a brown wire have no idea what its for.

Get an aifilter, dont run it without one.
