Finally got my kart together!:wai::wai:

I put my new harbor freight engine on it 6.5hp

then i had made the big conversion from single to live axle drive

then go the brakes running then i had a freind over and he was watching and said thats slow man its like 20 mph at top

so i was wondering what to do i got a 6:1 gear ratio 18 inch tires and still have the govener on

so what could i do to get it going faster? i'll post pics up soon but thats all i can do right now

oh what can i do to make the throtle cable go back farther than what it is now because if i get it to go at the way up it like at half throttle and i have treid everything i can think of? thanks :bannana:

Have you plugged your numbers into a speed calculator, and or GPS/ paced yourself to verify that?
so i was wondering what to do i got a 6:1 gear ratio 18 inch tires and still have the govener on
Are you running a clutch or torque convertor?
so what could i do to get it going faster? i'll post pics up soon but thats all i can do right now
Maybe regear, or TC

So, what? When you mat the pedal, it's not max throttle? Show us a pic of your gas pedal and throttle connections. You may need to attach the cable higher on the pedal to get a longer stroke, and/or shorten the leverage on the engine side.

Yeah, I got 32 out of the calc. That of course, is only academic, but should be in the ballpark but-

If you have 18" tires and a clutch, you might be just this side of roasting the clutch. I think guys that tend to run @ 6:1 usually have smaller tires. I could be wrong. I can't comment. I'm currently at 4.8:1 BUT with a TC that gives me a 11.66:1 takeoff ratio.
Guys- Anybody have any ratio suggestions for the lad?
And it definately sounds like you have to arrange a longer throttle stroke.

my live axle kart, which had 15" tires was pulling a 6:1, and that was good, but much higher and i would have been roasting the clutch. with 18s your on the line i'd say, as long as your not doing major off roading/hill climbs you'll be fine.

also the governor is internal, not on the carb, but in side the gear box, and it is a plastic gear... heres a vid on how to remove it, its really very easy....

looks good, your throttle linkage might fail in a long time. When you get some money, order a throttle kit for that cable. BTW, you might want to listen to newrider3 thats my $.02

to fix the prop un hook the cable from the engine then push and hold the pedal all the way down and re hook it up with the engine throtal arm in the WOT postition re hook it all up then take the weight off the pedal and make sure the pedal springs back up.
