So I got one of those Razor electric motorcycles from a rummage sale today for $12.50! I figured even if I couldn't get it working the good parts (wheels, brakes, tires) would be worth it, but my plan is to fix it up and give it to my brother for xmas cuz my a$$ is to fat for it. I've never worked on electric vehicles before and I'm going to need some help. First things first: tire not holding air, rusty chain, F'd up brakes, all thes I( know how to fix. The problem is the motor/drive train. I beleive the batteries are charged because when you turn the switch on an led brights up, but when you turn the throttle, nothing happens. Also, I think the motors good cuz I hooked it up to some voltage from a drill battery (bad idea?) and it shot off! So I think my problem lies within the controller, maybe its gone bad, maybe blown fuse, maybe its wired wrong:confused: So how can I tell if its wired right first of all and if it is how can I fix the other problems?

Also, unrelated, what is a good way to get rust off of metal parts (wheels, chain, nuts/bolts)?

just realized that since I flipped the wheel the freewheel on the bike goes in the wrong direction, why would they even put that on there? I JB-welded it so in 4-6 we'll see if it works

You can do a belt tensioner set up, better than centrifugal clutched IMO.

We'll I found a 1" vbelt clutch for 30 on ebay, and It this work I might get it.

Though maybe I should just get a couple 6.5 clones and stick one in there with a normal #35 chain/clutch setup

even if its still a cent clutch it will be no good a belt tensoner set up is 981237419028 times better then a cent clutch... that v belt clutch is still a cent clutch

I know, but I doubt my fab skills are enough to rig one up and I don't have a welder :mad2:

? you just need a arm with a idler pully bolted on it dont need any welding and just have that arm pivot on something

your gonna need to notch that frame to clear the belt. You can weld in some extra support too... because notching it will make it much much weaker.

it's too bad you put the jb on the pulley... thats gonna make it really nasty to try and weld now. JB weld REAKS when you apply welding heat to it... make sure to wear a respirator or go buy another pulley. You could buy a sproket instead and make it chain drive...?

looks like you need to go make friends w/ someone who has a welder.

JB weld won't do anything for the freewheel if you're running it reversed, it'll thread off the hub.

Jb weld wont do anything. Ive welded a sprocket on to a wheel like that were i had it on backwards and it works well. Also that pulley looks cast so u gotta take it to a place to get it welded unless u got a tig.

Regarding the belt alignment, bolt ur engine down first before doing anything. U will be amazed how it changes when u bolt it down tight.

JB Welded Flywheel

Do you think the j-b weld will be able to hold the freewheel?

Yeah, I didn't have much luck at all using JB Weld to hold a sprocket on and it had much less torque on it than what you're talking about here. I'd suggest just going to a random welding shop. I'd bet for $15 they'd do it for you. I've done that before and it worked out just fine.

Note that you could probably find the parts you need to replace at PartsForScooters.com. They have a big selection of stuff specific to fixing the Razor MX lines. I too was interested in finding one of these for parts, and seeing that you came across one that cheap gives me hope! :wai:
