My new project for the summer!

Hi, I just rejoined with a new user name. I was matt50 and I had my password in my email account before it failed. Hotmail. I switched over to gmail and I have had no problems since.

In case you read my other thread on a front wheel drive kart, it almost worked out, but inevitably failed because of weight issues and technically there were a lot of bugs with it. I almost got an engine for it.

Anyway, what I am going to do is buy a minibike frame kit and then buy a cheap motor off of ebay and then a new centrifugal clutch. I am going to get some nice 8" aluminum rims and tires for it, so I can take it in the mud and offroading in my woods. I am also going to do suspension in the back.
My question, for anyone out there who has made a minibike from a kit, is: What is the biggest engine you can fit in the frame. I will probably go with an Azusa large frame. I'm a torque junky, so I'd love to put a 6 or 7 horse flathead Tecumseh in there. Weight and handling aren't a big deal, power is a lot more important to me.

I would got with a small single cylinder 2 stroke in the 150-250cc range with a torque a verter for toque. Dads "minibike of death", (got its name because nobody has rode on it without injury) has a 250cc snowmobile engine in it with fixed gearing that would work well for a briggs 5hp. Tops at 55 and makes that in 10 yards with the wheelie bar.

OR, modify a OHV motor. Let's say... a HF 6.5 haha

People are pushing 20HP+ without boring, and running pump gas.

Yeah, but, it costs alot of money for what in my opinion is a waste when you can get a much more high performance engine for half the cost of modifying a little OHV..Not to mention way more reliable..

I have a baja motorsports doodle bug and i fit one of the blue 6.5 hp honda clones on it.

however i am not sure of the size differences between the 2 frames. I took my doodle bug up to the mountains to off road it and ended up burning up my clutch so be careful with that (It was a hell of a good time though). i would suggest a torque converter for sure, make sure it will fit on the engine first though. i tried to put on on my 6.5 hp clone this week and it did not fit.
