I thought I would share this with you guys. May be a good way to get a few bucks and learn at the same time for those of you who are too young to get a job.

OK. This is what I am starting to do. Buy iPod's and fix them, to sell on eBay.
So far I am about to buy my mates iPod touch 2nd 8gb. It has a smashed screen glass and lcd, and has dents on the back.
I am buying it for £35.
I need the following parts to sell as new:
Digitizer/ screen glass: £9.99
Lcd screen:£8.49
New stainless steel back: £8.49
New accessories (case, screen protector, headphones and usb cable): £5 ish.
Total spent: £67 ish.
I will then fix up the iPod and sell on ebay. These are some examples of sold 2nd/3rd generation 8gb iPod touches on ebay:

I am going to List the iPod for £110.
If it sells for that I will make £43 net. After approx 10% ebay and paypal fees this is about £30. Not too bad for a few hours work.
I am planning to buy up to 10 of these or the 4th generation models to fix up over the summer. I might fix up some with gold plated backs costing me £25 and see what price they sell for.
If I can average £25 per iPod, this is £250 total profit.
If I get proficient at fixing I could fix maybe an iPod every 2hrs, and 5 iPods in a day. After making listing templates it takes 5 minutes to list each iPod.
This would average at £100 plus a day (not every day of course!) doing something I enjoy doing, because I am learning about a hobby- electrics.
I could also fix up iPod screens as an ebay service. People list these for £30 when it costs them £10 in parts. This could give me £15 in profit per iPod.

I am trying to get some ipods off ebay in the first place. I may buy some faulty iphones when i have enough money in the paypal account.
Today i recieved most my items. Unfortunately the case was damaged! And the headphones a POS.
oh well.

I searched for faulty ipods, they seem more though. The parts are a little bit cheaper your right, but everything it cheaper in the US!

Those cheap Chinese Ipod parts on Ebay are utter garbage. I had a classic that wouldn't play through one headphone, replaced the jack with one from Ebay, and it worked fine for about a month.

Isnt the Ipod made of cheap Chinese parts anyway?

You will find that Apple uses very high quality parts in their products. I have been lucky enough to see where they assemble their products in Singapore. It is amazing.

I have a "chinese" screen in my ipod for over a month now. Its fine.
I have used chinese phone screens too and have had only one bad one.
I have the ipod partially inside the new casing now, but i have lost a volume button somewhere in my room
I guess i will pay £2.50 for a new one.

just thought I would add- Bought 2 ipods for £82.
One had broken screen and didnt work with touch,
The other the screen fell out.
The first had a problem with the circuit board which stopped the touch working. I tried cleaning the board and it now just says plug in to Itunes- LOOSE!
Turns out I can fix the second one as all that happened was the connector came loose! WIN.

I will flog on the first with the new screen I bought and just say that it says to plug into Itunes, may have other faults, may have been opened, no negitave feedback, etc,etc, to cover myself.

I can probably sell the second one for £85 or so hopefully though!

I am not fixing up any more ipods because it is way to fiddly and risky, unless its mine or a friends.

An important rule in business. "Make one person happy, they tell a couple of people. PISS THEM OFF they tell EVERYONE!!! Glad to see you're stepping back and evaluating things. All good ideas take time; not all work out. The trick is to figure that out before you dig yourself into a hole.

i could carry on, but it isnt really worthwile if I was to get too many unfixable iPods.
I know what you mean, I have seen a few companies like this, who have pissed people off. One thing I have noticed about reviews is that if a company or product is not 100% the reviews go down dramatically, because the pissed off people are more likely to leave reviews than the happy customers. I think this kinda demonstrates your point.

I will stick to washing cars and working for neighbours instead.
