Hello Everyone!

About a year ago I posted up some pictures of a Go Kart I was working on. Well, we moved and I had to sell it. Lately I've been bummed about not having my ol' kart. So I started looking on Craigslist and found this gem for $75.00! It needs a little bit of work, but I think I can turn this thing into a sweet ride. It has some sort of Gear box on it with a serpentine belt on it. I've never used a gear box or serpentine belt on a kart. Anything I should be aware of? Motor mount is kinda strange, but should work. Also, the axle on this thing is like 2 inches thick!!! IT's big! Anyone have some insight on this new project?

Thanks fellaz, I got lucky on this one. The frame alone is worth 75 dollars. I'm thinking about putting a HF motor on there.

Dude, I got a similar frame for $100 as well! It was such a good deal as well is yours! We need to stay in contact because I think we are the only ones on here with similar racing type frames. My kart doesn't have a nice of bearings though.

What are your plans for it? See with my kart im going to rebuild the steering components because they are a little weird and off center. Ive tried adjusting them. And I need to get a new hydraulic brake system. And also planing on getting some nicer bearings like those! My gas and brake pedals also need to get moved. They are mounted on that bar at a 45degree angle and it feels REALLY weird to press. I will weld on something to get them like they are on your kart.

Then when all that is done, and I save up enough money, im going to get like a 125cc dirt bike engine. either a 4 or 5 speed with a clutch. The things gonna FLY!!!

Here are some pics of my kart as it is right now (with HF engine)

BTW, good luck with your kart man! Again, please keep me updated on your plans and progress of your kart!

Hey, Ratt Fink! LOOKIT THIS!
Good News! You probably already know this, but my curiosity was killing me. You have a Honda GX200RH... (or clone) which means that the clutch is built in, and that it has an internal reduction of 2:1. The output shaft spins anywhere from 900 rpm (engagement) to 1800 rpm. VERY NICE set up!
Heres the link....

Thanks for the insight on this Kart everyone. That link was especially helpful Jerry. I wasn't even sure what to call that thing! I need to get the motor running and see if the clutch is going to work properly. Then I will bleed the brakes, move in the back wheels (the rear wheels are sticking out 6 more inches than the front!), show this thing the attention it deserves! I will keep everyone posted on the build. I should have this thing ready in a couple of weeks.

BTW, I really like your kart SDannen, looks great.

Hey Jerry,

If you're looking for karts on Craigslist, always try spelling it "Go Carts". I have found both of my Karts on Craigslist when I spelled it with a C. Its worth a shot anyways! Good luck---

Man, you guys are lucky finding that stuff for less than $500, which is the cheapest I can find anything localy, even for a small used cart! Some people on craigslist want like $1500 for a kart like the one that Rat Fink got!!!

yeah that thing is a reduction unit. its used on racing karts with those type of engines [ie non serious racing ones] to avoid having a 60 tooth sprocket hit the ground! so you only need a 30 tooth sprocket becuase you already have half the reduction..

sdannen still around? Anybody know the dimensions to his kart?

Ironman's and his kart looks real compact - I want to go for that look.

Jerry, I think my motor also has a gear reducion unit on it. I'll post some pics in another thread.

Sorry for hijacking this thread.

If its like the clutch/GR posted above, then no you do not need a clutch, if its JUST a gear reduction, yes you do
