What ya guys think ?

Picked it up today for $750. Came with new rims with MG reds, racing exhaust, spare airbox, the old tyres and rims, lots of bolts, an old carby and some other stuff.

I need to seat the tyres on the rim, any good tips for this ? cause im struggling.

Brakes are leaking from the pistons, so i need a couple of new seals, will i need to get the exact model ? or are they a generic size ?

I think the engine is a KT100s but i may be wrong ? any info about maintanace and servicing would be greatly appreciated.

At the moment its direct drive, should i purchase a clutch for it ? will it make life any easier ? prolong the life of the engine ?

The shopping list for now is a new seat, fuel tank and fuel line and some nice and colourfull bolts and spacers :cheers2:

Remove the valve centres.

Generic size may work but, don't quote me on that; best to wait for anderkart or someone of that calibre

Well, you'll be able to stop without stalling it but, I'm not sure if there will be any other benifits. Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to just slap a maxtorque unit on there, you may need something a bit more "advanced" than that

Yeah I would need a longer drive shaft for a clutch,

with gearing at the moment it is pretty high, 1:7.08 or 1:7.72 I can't tell if it is a 11 or 12tooth at the front going to a 85 at the back, is there a standard race gearing ? I guess it would change a lot with the track,
also chain tension, how much slack do I need ? I was guessing just a little cause its a Tarmac kart, so it's pretty tight now.

Since you will have the caliper apart, you may as well do the whole kit. AFAIK, it's only the piston seals & maybe an O ring or two where the caliper splits if it's a twin piston

You could buy a clutch to fit (the short output shaft of) your KT100, but they're fairly expensive.
Another issue to consider is you couldnt push start it with a clutch, so you'd also need to buy a kart starter.

Sounds like your kart is geared for around a 50 to 60mph top speed now.

I cant tell what brand/model your caliper is, but If you post some pics of it, I'll try to help you find a rebuild kit in Oz.

here are some pics of the brakes anderkart, not sure if they will help.

With the gearing, is there a standard race setup ? and what sort of clearance should i have for the rear sprocket ? cause its about 1/2 inch atm.

Sorry I dont recognise that caliper, It must be an older European/Australian brand.
To find parts, you could try sending your caliper pics to some of the Oz. racekart shops you'll find in this search link:http://www.google.com/search?source...pw.r_qf.&fp=43ffb9a5b11aeeba&biw=1024&bih=532

There's no standard gearing, kart racers simply gear their karts to best match the size/type of track they race on. You could replace your axle sprocket with a smaller one, but you might find you'd also need to replace your engines drive gear with a smaller one to maintain good acseloration.

That front end looks like a Margay I saw when trying to identify my old Margay, I'll see if I can find it again. Open up that caliper and master cylinder and see what size seals you need.

Do you know who the chassis mfgr is? Any marking inside either spindle mount, rear cross bar or anywhere else on the chassis?

Thanks for the help guys, I can't see a marking, but the guy I bought it from painted the whole frame black so there probably is one, just very dificult to see. Il try again later today again. I was thinking on getting it powder coated, so after sand blasting might be able to see it then. But is it worth getting it powder coated ? Also the rear axle rusts up pretty quick, should I paint it ? Or just leave it be ?

Thanks guys

check for some numbers/letters on the bracket base where the steering arm mounts to the bottom of the chassis. That looks exactly like the kart that I have. Unfortunately I haven't been able to identify the maker. That caliper is of an older CRG kart. It's available in both hydraulic and cable operating styles.

I am completely new to go karting I was wondering what the white cylinder in front of your motor was called and where I could get it

There called an "Air Box" and used to help reduce Intake noise on 2-cycle engines. They're available at most any racekart shop, here's a link to some available online: http://www.out2win.com/catalog/airbox.html

PS: your air filter goes inside, and you simply need to measure the air filter mounting flange diameter on your carb when ordering an airbox
