Hello everyone,

I just bought a Manco cart from a neighbor to use in parades. It has a 5hp B&S and is really in top notch shape. Ran the first parade quite well till the last 100 feet. It started to lose power on the turns. If I feathered the gas pedal like a maniac, I could get it to catch and not stall but it kept getting worse and I had to get dragged to the finish by one of the other carts. It wouldn't start for about 15 minutes, and after it did start it ran great again. I had it out a few days later and it was doing the power loss on the turns again. It feels like it is starved for fuel when you are making the turn. Is this a known symptom of something? I am pretty good with repairs but small engines are new to me. Also, do anyone have a picture of what the governor should like like? (with all the springs in the right place and what not. One of the other guys thought there may be a spring missing from the governor assembly. Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

If you were asking for a pic of the gov then I will take one tonight and post it as well as a shot of my engine and some closer shots of everything else.

here are some more pics and info

I should also mention that before I took ownership of the cart, my neighbor changed the diaphragm on the carb. Is it possible that this was not done correctly? I read on here somewhere you can test for air leaks by spraying WD40 on on the carb while it's running. I am guessing that means on the outside where everything bolts together. Is that right? Well any help is great. There are 5 other vehicles we use in the parades and I gave the other guys this site as it seems like it should be very helpful. Here are some more pictures.

If it feels like it is starving for fuel in the turns, you either need to fill your gas tank up farther, or your fuel pick-up tube may be broken off or cracked.

looks like it was clogged with silt from the upper bowl. Cleaned the carb and the tank and noticed the sponge is dry rotting as well. Trying to figure out what to do with the sponge issues and then hopefully problem solved.

Remove the sponge entirely, it'll clog the pick-up tube once it starts to dissolve and rot. Your tank should still have baffles besides just that sponge which will help with splash. Briggs makes a small screen that you can place over that tube to help with this problem but I'm not at the shop right now, any small lawn mower shop worth their salt that is a Briggs dealer should sell this screen and know what it is.

Shriner right? We try to help our locals with any problems they have on their motorized vehicles they use for the parades whenever possible. Good man. :)
