Update for today....

Got the throttle connected. Bypassed the governer and now the gas pedal works as it should. Went for a spin around the yard and boy is this thing fast! Way faster than the kids can handle so I think a throttle stop (that can be removed quickly for a more exhiliratingly adult ride!) is in order.

Having a problem with the clutch...it buzzes and engages as I pull the rope (does not do this when it's cold, only when hot after it's been run for a few minutes). It also does this as I push the cart. Also found a dent in the sprocket (the chain flew off as I was sideways in a corner LOL!) I have a track graded around the fence on our property (2-1/2 acres). it's flat but a bit bumpy and there's a few soft spots.

Photos and video to follow.

How about simply removing a link or two from the chain? Shift the motor all the way back to allow for easy adjustment as it stretches...

Shifting the engine...um, didn't know I could do that! Thanks! The chain has been broken a few times already....judging by all the spliced links. Also, the clutch wobbles around just a bit. I think that's what causes the buzzing noise.

Get a new chain. Tractor Supply sells it in bulk lengths CHEAP, and it's easy to do...

Make sure the clutch is tight on the shaft, it should not wobble.

The nut on the end of the crank is tight (not sure about the one behind the steering wheel though LOL!) Still wobbles. Feels like a bushing is shot. I planned on replacing it along with the chain and sprocket.

Heavy metal rake with some weights on it tied behind the gokart @ just above idle speed would smooth it out good! much like you see the people do on a baseball field...
