It's Father's Day weekend so my wife couldn't be mad at me for dragging home more junk, right?

I picked up this Monster Moto mini bike and a go kart frame for $150 total yesterday.

The bike is in good shape and was garage kept, but SHOCKER it's been sitting up with fuel in the tank for over a year. I took apart the carb this morning and gave it a good cleaning. The tank has been drained and is full of cleaner at the moment.

The frame is in fair shape, but if I strip off the 20-30 coats of paint on it I may find that's all that was holding it together. It has a live axle and disc brake.

I am hoping to flip the mini bike for around $200 once it's running and pretend someone paid me $50 to take the frame. We will see how that works out. :roflol:

I like that kart..

kinda reminds me of a bug stinger (IIRC it's the stinger it reminds me of... a bug it is for sure ;))
Anyways..
it's a nice kart, and with some TLC it'll be a beautiful one too ;)

Nice! Dude I think that might be a McCulloch R1 frame do the pedals have cmc on the front of them? It could be worth hundreds. Seriously! Do NOT break those split rims if thats an R1 the rims alone are worth 100 a pair if the outter edges aren't broke. Im not joking, ive sold a lot of vintage karts.

I have an F1 in the projects forum. The R1 was beefed up with the extra side bar and was a racing kart.

A big "thank you" for the info. I will take some better pictures tonight and post them up for review.

Two things for full disclosure...

1) I know almost nothing about karts. I am only here to leach knowledge from the big brains of the members. I bought a couple of karts for my kids and had fun working on them, so I bought the frame hoping to make one for myself. That’s an alibi for saying I wouldn’t know a rare frame from a junker.

2) The kart has gone through a series of "Appalachian Engineering" mods over the years. It has extra holes and a few eyebolts sticking out from place to place. I started stripping off paint yesterday, but will pause my efforts until I get some more info on the frame.

As I said in the original post I was in $150 for the frame and the mini bike. My neighbor wanted the mini bike in a big bad way, so I’m selling it to him for $140. Only putting me in the frame for $10 plus the gas my truck slurped down to go get it.

Aye, thanks for the copious photos--really gives us a good look at it. I am definitely a fan of the less-is-more kart frame style. Narrow, purposeful, just enough steel tubing in the construction to get the job done...or a little more for ruggedness.

Digging the classic "bucket" seat, or the frame for it. It's like a cradle.

You've got nothing there that an angle grinder and sandblaster couldn't cure. Rescue that beast!

Yeah dont think its an R1 but I dont know if they were all the same. Im kinda confused on the bug comment, not sure if they meant thats what it is. Its something along those lines but this frame has been hacked and whacked a lot like my f1 so have no fear running it . an 8hp older engine would be a good match mies getting a 212 now but planning on a briggs down the line whenever I find one. I wish it didnt have yellow paint on it the r1's were yellow. The small light frames with a few mods are my fav.

Allow me to clarify...
No, that's what it reminded me of (for sure ;))...

and it's the WASP not the stinger I had in mind,
(to be precise the upper frame rails narrowing down behind the seat like on a Wasp frame)

here's such Wasp frame ...

see.. that's all I meant.
