ok, springs are in, piston too. the wavy part of the oil ring was too big, so i had to remove a part of it. yes, i know i may have mucked it up, but it fits. the springs aren't anywhere near as stiff as i figured. they were easy to install. i checked my surfaces in case i wanted to run gasket-less. took a straight file and straightened the surfaces up. decided to go ahead and run the gasket for now. there was micro-growth in the block. carb cleaner didn't do much against it. i have to say, the inside of the clone was better looking/feeling than the 160's. since i had the 160 short block sitting there, i tried swapping the sidecover. won't work.
well, i have snow, but as i've never driven on the crap, i'm thinking i might tomorrow. i have to remount my engine though. i hate using tools in the cold!!!!!!!! my choke is electric now, so i may have to shoot some primer into the carb. i know it will be drifting like i never have, but, i'd hate to fung up my kart. we don't have plows, and the roads are getting covered. in my section of trails, water stands, so i may check the thickness and drive on ice. the mud right there is waist deep because it used to be the city fishing pond. on second thought, naw!!!
there were only two spots that were out on the mating surfaces, both on the block. it lights up from the sparks energy. it only does a brown red color and only looks cool at idle. on harleys and similar engines they look way better. they will actually pulse in color.
yep ody is too low on gas. so i mounted the kart motor back up. i have the wrong tires for snow(turf savers). drifting in snow is way slower than regular. i hit a ditch where the ice was thin and got splashed, God!! that was cold!! retarded me, i went into my trails with the snow melting and got stuck about ten times. again wrong tires. i probably spent an hour riding/getting stuck. even on the street it seems to have less power than with the stock carb and 340 rockers. definitely needs fenders too. i noticed that my airfilter was getting iced over. i kept knocking the crap off.
i would have my speedo connected, but my big cresent wrench went missing and my step bits. money is getting tighter. as to my speed/acceleration, i think this is mainly due to the belt being worn down. in the driven it sits a good 1/4-3/8" in from where it is supposed to. i have a new belt, but i'm not entirely sure how it is supposed to set. no updates on when i will get the propper fly for running my lights. i think when i do get the speedo connected i'll start swapping parts again to see gains/losses.
since the last post, i have purchased 1 big crescent and found my big crescent wrench. my bits have also been located. the axle nuts which i mic'd @ 1 7/16' were not, so $11 plus wasted. the nuts are so frozen with rust it isn't funny. wd-40 doesn't help they are so bad. i ended up drilling a hole in the brake hub mount to hold the magnet. it reads 47mph on the stands, but only 31 up and down hill (another schwinn 12 function bike speedo). it is a very slight grade, maybe 12" in 100yds, but you can tell uphill from down. looks like i may be regearing. the carb doesn't seem quite right either so i'll be tweaking that (running straight hose as opposed to curved, and maybe shorter lengths). the pumper still has not come online as of yet so i got another can of cleaner. still haven't got the proper fly, but will when i can. still haven't found out why the TC will engage really hard and normal. on normal it will climb a cinder block that is laying down. on hard, it tries to lift the front wheels. the speedo is now mounted in the center of the wheel as opposed to on the wheel. got to go out of town for work, so no progress for a week or so. if i get the tiller from my uncle, i may bolt up the clone to get more yard turned quicker

ok so i was driving it around the yard letting my siblings drive, the youngest is 4. everything was going good, so i decided to take it out on the road to open her up and let her cool down. i get up to 30 turn around and start coming back. about half way back i get thumped in the back by something (figured it might be the fly) nope, it was the driver. i found 1 of the fly weights, no garters; and the movable sheave. i know where i can get some used parts for cheap, but i'm wondering why it decided to, for lack of a better term, 'detonate'? when i first got thumped, i turned to see what had broke, i thought i saw a shredded belt getting ejected, nope, still good. the system of mounting i had been using is the same since first installing the TC system. i tighten with a wrench, then with the wrench on the bolt, i pull the rope (it acts as a wrench). that might be why the rope has broken twice.
