carter 2906; hf 6.5, 1.3s, every other fin removed; torq convertor; animal intake, 1" heater hose; schwinn speedo. first carb mods. new carb and pulsing spark plug boot. future carb, maybe

took her out for testing, she's a dog. but i still wanted to ride, so i dropped a valve. waiting for 18s, and pilot jets (again). thinking about cutting the remaining fins down by half. half as tall. since i popped a hole in my intake runner, i milled out the chamber, to be more hemi. i didn't touch the top of the chamber, just the sides. i also made my 160's piston flat topped. if i were to install this in my clone, i would have less comp, but more flow. not what i need right now. reinstalled the 160 head. and i cut off an inch of hose in preparation for the next run.

got some pilots, a 42 and 45. the 45 woke her up, but i did cut another inch off of the spacer. tires (fronts) kept going low so i tanked them. both valve stems are leaking, and one valve core is leaking. i will wait to fix them until the recall parts come in to fix the front end. you know its funny, i made some spacers for the flipped wheels, and the whole time before i did that only the one would go flat. so i spent the day tearing down a 500cc rubicon, bad radiator, and reassembling the ody. i think the next time i find leaks in that tank i will go ahead and kreem it. she doesn't jump like my lt80, but she does drift good. i wish her fat a$$ had reverse though, because the belt drags on the drive pulley's shaft and being that long with posi is a pain to turn. good thing it spins the tires easily when shes running and there's room.

ordered my $10 charging coils from baja. will order the flat top and 18s from agk
(probably tomorrow). gotta grab some stems from napa in the morn. 130 for kart, 32 for tc belt, 40 for tires, 18 for coils, 8 for sparking cap, carb free (otherwise new is $150), 25 for jet kits and aircleaner, 10 for speedo, 17 for new lights, 30 for 1.3s, 40 for springs and piston. $350 not too bad, i guess.

i looked into getting a camera capable of video (decent looking camcorder at walmart for $48), need to do some homework on it. went to buy valve stems, rubber were $4.99. metal were $5.19. easy choice. recall kit came in. went to reinstall tires, the stems miss by a good 6mm/1/4", but now the tires are rubbing the tie rod ends. i'm going to have to find some bearinged rims for the front. finally looked at the plug, very light tan. more plug chops in store. i did modify the chamber on the 160, so i'll have to pay attention to see how it reacts. jb is fully set in the old head. but i ground out all of the material that will allow the piston to come into the head. maybe 1/3 of a hemi chamber. i did the modifying thinking the head was shot. don't think i'll be using the stock head anymore except maybe to see how it acts.

ughh! dyno doesn't have 18s, and will not tell you shipping until after the order is placed. arc doesn't have 18s, (their supposed 18s are 10 a piece)and a 50 minimum purchase. nr has higher piston and shipping prices, so i went with AGK. i originally didn't like agk because when i went to order 1.3s they were 20 a piece. hasn't the clone been around for like 4 years? you'd think they'd have comparable prices. and arc told me no one really knows what 18lb is, whether initial pressure or max comp pressure. gee whiz. anyway, parts (charge coil, piston, springs) are ordered. if that flat top sits lower in my cylinder i'll be miffed. i guess i'll just throw it in my 160 if that is the case.

ok, i finally got another key, to he!! with a file, my dremel took a good bit to cut it. it may be a bit wider than 0.048, but not by much. i would venture less than a degree. the min is ~.048, max ~.051? i took some 120 grit to my 160's haircut. pretty smooth now. i could have sworn the piston sat deeper in the hole before hand.

coils are in. when i was messing with the 160 yestereve, i noticed that the coils mounts were untapped. grr. i hope the 6.5's are.

any ideas as to rpm with a 8* key, flatty, 1.3s, 19mm carb, #18ers? my engine ungoverned only ran 3950-4200rpm. i guess since i have to pull the side cover and head, i'll go ahead and change the oil again. i still haven't fished the piece of rocker box out of the engine. though i haven't ran her. i don't have a digital mic, so i will hand check for slop in the parts. i might have 20-25 hours on her. no, the speedo is not yet connected. my step bits went missing.

i went ahead and installed the 8* key and coils. no luck on the coils so far. there were issues in getting them mounted properly. had a longer pipe from a gl1100 crashguard (1 big (4") curve and 1 bend) on in stead of straight pipe, didn't sound as good.

TurtleMan, technically those are called "spinner knobs." Used to be a hot item on cars back in the '50's, as you could sling one arm around your girl and still drive the car. Occasionally forklifts have them, too.

ok while waiting for agk, i cut back more of my hose/spacer. she would squeeze in at idle, but off idle she would expand, i kind of liked that. but i went ahead and eyeballed the length and cut a prebent piece i had (thicker wall) to the same length. i made my bracket to stabilize the carb. aluminum strap i had for a previous project. i used one of my recoil mounting bolts as an anchor. i am considering putting the stock exhaust back on because some one was saying that a weiner pipe reduced torque and hp. if i go this route, i will use a hole saw and make the opening to free air bigger. to keep some if not all of my top end. that or i will do some test runs with the piece of crash gaurd i have and do a comparo.
