Well, it's taken me a long time to get a thread started about my kart and plans I have, so here goes. My kart is a mid 90's MxK Racing Demon II sprint kart frame, and it was a gem that I purchased for $400. The price tag included tires, spindles, steering turnbuckles and a steering wheel, a brake, a seat, and a Predator 212 that has the governor removed. The frame itself has adjustments for camber, caster, ride height, and toe in the front. The only parts that I have bought for it so far are some new bearings for the steering, a heavier spring for the throttle because it was sticking, and some new bolts for the engine mounts. For the winter time, I have the kart stored in my work room on a painter's tarp so I don't make a mess while working on it.

My plans for the kart are, as of now at least, to paint it, get some quality slicks and new rims, buy new rear axle bearings, install a smaller sprocket, and find cheap ways to increase the output of the Predator 212. Any tips for power without shelling out a ton of money for billet parts?

The tires and rims that came with the kart are really sketchy. One of the rear wheels has been bent slightly, the front tires (which are knobby turf tires) have very bad wear on the insides due to camber, one of the tires has water in it for some reason, the stem valves on the front rims are bent up so bad that I can't fill them up or empty out the air, and all of the tires have really bad cracking along the side walls which concerns me. I also do not like that the tire compound does not match all the way around (The rear tires are 11.0X7.0-5 Burris rain tires by the way).

For the painting, I have started sanding surface rust with 220 grit discs and an electric orbital sander. I'm still trying to figure out how to make a makeshift painting booth inside my workroom, but I was thinking I could hang some sheets of polyethylene from the ceiling. On the topic of paint, what colors do you guys suggest I should paint the frame?

Here's some pictures of the kart from day one and as I have it now partly dismantled:

For painting the frame, rather than painting it, I was thinking about buffing the bare steel of the frame and clear coating it. I'm not sure how that would turn out but I feel like it would be pretty cool.

Is the gov completely removed or bypassed??? There's a difference, that could mean a disaster or not...

Here's some ideas that can help...

Also if the gov is still in but disabled, if its hooked up originally, it can be repositioned to about 5k, and still be safe from con-rod dissections s no need for a billet part...

whats really cool is sandblasted then clear coat, it gives it a nice gray with lighter specks

I wish I could afford a sand blaster... Also, I have been doing research and no place near me has a sand blaster that I can rent unfortunately.

Don't worry, the governor has been completely removed because the screw hole where the governor arm was has been plugged. I still need to open up the engine but I'm fairly certain the plastic governor wheel is not there.

What happens differently if the governor is disabled verses completely removed?

From what I've learned, I think the disabled governor gear can break while the engine is running and cause damage inside the crank case. That's why people remove the whole speed governor so they do not damage the crankshaft and the connecting rod.
