Hi all,

I've been looking on these forums for quite a while, so I thought why not take some pictures of my own go kart and share them with you.

We've bought it from our neighbour a couple of years ago, so its not really diy. He worked as a mechanic at a Six Flags park and he told us the kart belonged to the so called ''Batman Stunt Show''. They stopped doing this show and that's why he bought them. There should still be two more of these karts in the Netherlands now..

As you can see its equipped with a B&S 23hp v-twin engine. It can probably do about 80km/h but I'm not too sure. Its great fun to drive. I figured out that the chassis is an old Rimo Crosskart chassis. They still produce these karts but the newer types are equipped with suspension which mine hasnt got.

I'm planning to remove this brake system and go for hydraulic brakes, because it barely brakes right now. so if there is any more progress I will ofcourse post it on here..

Oh and here's a video if you want to hear its sound...:D

Thanks,
Marco

Cool! Somebody from the Netherlands, I guess this is almost the closest I can go with a member. Haven't seen any Belgians on here yet! Welcome to the forum!

You buggy looks awesome! Good luck with the brake conversation and don't forget to keep us updated. ;)

that's a nice motor you got there!

put some bigger tires on the front, some knobby tires on the back (keep your tire pressure a little low for better shock absorption), and you'll have a better off-road ride.

if it was me, i'd be making a swingarm with shocks for the rear, and throwing some a-arms and a rack n pinion on the front. :)

Dit is n baaie mooi kart. $500 was n gooie prys.

That's disgusting, and frankly, I'm offended! LOL

Neat kart, awesome deal. Definitely swap out the brakes as soon as you can. It drives me insane when I see builds like this. Somebody went to great time/trouble/expense to build something that will go like snot, and yet turn a blind eye to brake performance/safety. That's just stupid.

It's been a while since I last looked on here, so first of all, Happy new year to you all!

I had some luck a couple of days ago when my neighour found a box full of parts for my kart laying in his shed. He gave it to me because it was just taking up space for him. This is what I found inside:

IMAG0444.jpg

- 1 unused brake disc
- 4 unused brake pads
- 2 starter motors
- 2 ignition coils (I think..)
- 2 torque converters
- 1 drive belt
- 3 unused oil filters
- 3 spindles
- 3 drag bars
- 1 brake/throttle cable
- 1 air filter
- some nuts and bolts

:wai:

So then I started thinking about the bad brakes on my kart, had a quick look at the brake disc on the kart and saw that it was slightly bent, also the brake pads were a bit worn out.

I decided to replace the pads and the disc and see if it makes any difference. I knew it wouldnt be that easy because of all the rust on every single bolt, but after a lot of WD40 and proper use of the hammer I got my rear axle off and took the bent brake disc off.

Old brake pads:

New brake pads and disc:

Thats it for now, I'm going to put everything back together later this week so we'll see if it works then!

Thanks
Marco

In the mean time I've got everything put back in place, it was quite hard getting the rear axle back on, as I was doing everything on my own. Putting 3 bearings in their housings is quite hard when you only have 2 hands lol.

So I hung the rear axle up on a lashing strap so I could tighten the strap and make it go up and down, and I put some duct tape around the wheel hubs and the rear bumper to stop it wobbling forwards and backwards.
Like this:

This is when the bearings slid into the housings, so it just needed to move up a bit using the straps.

Bought some new brake cables because the old ones started to fray at the end. So it's now all finished and I found out that the kart finally started braking properly. So thats problem solved for now!

Necessity is the mother of invention :D

It's amazing what you can come up with when you have no other choice

Good to hear that, after all that, something good came out of it
