Thanks for the links, I guess the length would depend on space between spindles, waiting for my cannon dale spindles to get here.

No, you need to design the distance between the pivoting of the a arms at the frame to the length of the rack. ie if the distance between the a arms is 14" at the frame then you need a 14" rack. For those yurfdog racks you need to know the width of the rack without the tie rods.
I have a drawing that might help explaining a simple setup for a arms and rack. This drawing is for a 8" rack. The rack is drawn in light.

Do you want your feet between the a arms, or do you want them behind them? How do you plan on cutting up the front? Got a sketch?

since i dont like bumping others old threads and would like to keep all the input in this project thread i have started here i would like to ask specific types of questions regarding my build.
here goes....
i have learned about the front suspension and have a rack-n-pinion on the way thanks to your help and the drawing posted from theo.

now for the rear. i have a 24" wide swingarm on the way that i will mod to work if need
be. the 16hp is here for mock up.
my question is regarding the rear tires. i read that a bunch of you run between 15 and 18" on average. with the size of my kart will a set of 18 work good enough for off road ?

this is based on running short course tracks mainly, no room for long straights here.
like i said there will be a 16hp motor, and i will get the comet torque converter soon.
and with the 18" tires i have from a mower will it all work out, i know i will need the proper sprocket but thats a future discussion.

reason i ask now is that i will be setting up the whole rear and want to get the axle width correct.

thank you
